Daniël De Ridder
Daniël Robin Frederick de Ridder (born 6 March 1984) is a Dutch former professional footballer. He played as a winger operating either on the right or left side but would occasionally play a more advanced role. He represented Ajax, Celta Vigo, Birmingham City, Wigan Athletic, Hapoel Tel Aviv, Grasshoppers, Heerenveen, RKC Waalwijk and Cambuur. Since 2016, De Ridder has worked as a pundit for football program ''NOS Eredivisie op Vrijdag''. Early and personal life De Ridder was born in Amsterdam to a Dutch father and a Jewish-Israeli mother. He is Jewish and speaks Hebrew. De Ridder is one of only six Jewish players to have played for Ajax – the others being Eddy Hamel, Johnny Roeg, Bennie Muller, Sjaak Swart and Ilan Boccara. Jesaia Swart (born 3 July 1938), commonly known as Sjaak Swart, is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a winger for Ajax. During his career at Ajax, he amassed a total of almost 600 matches, a record for the club. Biography Swart is Jewish and was born in Muiderberg, a fishing village about 20 kilometers east of Amsterdam. His Jewish fisherman father sold herring at the market. As a child, he and his father concealed themselves as non-Jews during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands from 1940 to 1945, hiding from Germans and Dutch colluders, who rounded up any Jews; nearly 75 per cent of the Dutch Jewish population was killed in those years. Bennie Muller
Bennie Muller (14 August 1938 – 17 January 2024) was a Dutch professional footballer who played as a midfielder for Ajax and the Netherlands national team. Early life Muller was born in the Jewish Quarter of Amsterdam-East. His grandfather was a fruit seller named Levi Sluiter. His mother was incarcerated in Westerbork transit camp during World War II. Approximately 200 members of Muller's extended family were killed in the Holocaust. Club career Muller played club football for Ajax beginning in 1958, and was its captain. He made his debut for Ajax against MVV and played 426 official matches for the club. He won five league titles and three domestic cups with them. Eddy Hamel
Eddy Hamel (October 21, 1902 – April 30, 1943) was an American soccer player who played as a right winger for Dutch club AFC Ajax. Hamel was the first Jewish player for Ajax. He was murdered by the Nazis in 1943 in Auschwitz concentration camp. Background Hamel was born in New York City, New York (state), New York to Moses Hamel, a diamond polisher, and his wife Eva. They were Jewish immigrants from the Netherlands, who had arrived in the US in 1901. They moved back to Amsterdam with Hamel when he was six months old, in 1903.
