Danish Women's Society
The Danish Women's Society or DWS () is Denmark's oldest women's rights organization. It was founded in 1871 by activist Matilde Bajer and her husband Fredrik Bajer; Fredrik was a Member of Parliament and the 1908 Nobel Peace Prize laureate. The association stands for an inclusive, intersectionality, intersectional and progressive liberal feminism, and advocates for the rights of all women and girls and LGBT rights. It publishes the world's oldest women's magazine, ''Kvinden & Samfundet'' (Woman and Society), established in 1885. The Danish Women's Society is a member of the International Alliance of Women and is a sister association of the Norwegian Association for Women's Rights and the Icelandic Women's Rights Association. LGBTQ people are individuals who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or questioning. Many variants of the initialism are used; LGBTQIA+ people incorporates intersex, asexual, aromantic, agender, and other individuals. Elisa Petersen
Elisabeth Amalie Petersen born Parelius, usually known as Elisa Petersen, (1876–1932) was a Danish politician and women's rights activist. She was involved in the women's movement from 1907 and served on the municipal council of Næstved from 1909. As a member of the Danish Women's Society, she contributed in particular to children's welfare, later serving as president of the organisation from 1924 to 1931. Representing the Liberal Party, from 1928 until her death in 1932 she served as an alternate in the Landsting. Gyrithe Lemche
Ellen Gyrithe Lemche née Frisch (1866–1945) was a Danish writer, women's rights campaigner and local historian. She is remembered in particular for the important part she played in the activities of the Danish Women's Society (''Dansk Kvindesamfund''), especially around 1915 when the Danish Constitution was amended to include women's suffrage. She was a co-founder of Lyngby-Tårbæk Local Historic Society (Historisk-Topografisk Selskab for Lyngby-Tårbæk) in 1927. Julie Arenholt
Julie Johanne Arenholt née Rosengreen (10 December 1873 – 21 July 1952) was a Danish civil engineer, women's rights activist and politician. In 1910, she became the first woman in Denmark to work as a factory engineer, inspecting the premises of bakeries in Copenhagen until she retired in 1939. She was an active member of the Danish Women's Society, serving as president from 1918 to 1921. Astrid Stampe Feddersen
Astrid Stampe Feddersen, usually known as Astrid Stampe, (1852–1930) was a Danish women's rights activist and author alongside her sister Rigmor Stampe Bendix. Stampe joined the women's movement early on and from 1883 to 1887, she was on the board of the Danish Women's Society, playing an active part in work on women's issues. Jutta Bojsen-Møller
Jutta Bojsen-Møller born Bojsen (1837–1927) was a Danish high school proponent, a women's rights activist and a member of the Danish Women's Society which she headed from 1894 to 1910. Biography Born in Store Heddinge on the Danish island of Zealand, Jutta Kunigunde Bojsen was the daughter of Frederik Engelhardt Boisen (1808–1882), a parish priest, and the writer Eline Birgitte Heramb (1813–1871). In 1857, she married the parish priest Otto Ditlev Møller (1814–1892) with whom she had eight children. One of a family of 11, she was brought up in Skørpinge near Slagelse where her father was appointed as parish priest shortly after her birth. Elisabeth Kirstine Frederiksen (1845–1903) was a Danish pedagogue, writer and women's activist. Influenced by study trips to the United States, she was a pioneer of visual pedagogy in Denmark, publishing ''Anskuelsesundervisning, Haandbog for Lærere'' (Visual Instruction: a Handbook for Teachers) in 1889. Marie Rovsing
Marie Nicolina Theodora Rovsing née Schack (1814–1888) was a pioneering Danish women's rights activist. From 1871 to 1888 she was a board member of the Danish Women's Society, serving as president from 1883 to 1887. Interested in allowing women to practise crafts and manual work traditionally reserved for men, on her death she left a legacy which among other things allowed two women to be the first in Denmark to qualify as carpenters. Caroline Testman
Caroline Sophie Testman (1839 - 1919), was a Danish feminist. She was the co-founder of the Dansk Kvindesamfund or DK (Danish Women's Association) and its chairman 1872-1883. She was the daughter of postmaster and captain Peder Otto Testman (1806–90) and Henriette Marie Hohlenberg (1808–74). She had the wish to study, but was not given permission by her father. In the 1860s, however, she became active as a freelance journalist, and contributed with articles to various papers, something she continued to do most of her life.
