Daniel Johnston
Daniel Dale Johnston (January 22, 1961 – September 11, 2019) was an American singer, musician and artist regarded as a significant figure in outsider, lo-fi, and alternative music scenes. Most of his work consisted of cassettes recorded alone in his home, and his music was frequently cited for its "pure" and "childlike" qualities. Johnston spent extended periods in psychiatric institutions and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He garnered a local following in the 1980s by passing out tapes of his music while working at a McDonald's in Dobie Center in Austin, Texas. His cult status was propelled when Nirvana's Kurt Cobain was seen wearing a T-shirt that featured artwork from Johnston's 1983 cassette album ''Hi, How Are You''. Johnston also created visual art, and his illustrations were exhibited at galleries around the world. Daniel Johnston (born 1947) is an American neuroscientist who currently serves as professor emeritus in the Department of Neuroscience within The University of Texas at Austin College of Natural Sciences. Education Johnston graduated ''cum laude'' from the University of Virginia in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He completed a PhD in biomedical engineering and physiology at Duke University, followed by postdoctoral training in cellular neurophysiology at the University of Minnesota. Dan L. Johnston (April 6, 1938 – October 21, 2016) was an American lawyer and politician. He was from Des Moines, Iowa. A member of the Iowa Democratic Party, he served in the Iowa House of Representatives and as the Polk County attorney. Early life Born in Montezuma, Iowa, Johnston attended the public schools in Marshalltown and Toledo before earning a bachelor's degree from Westmar College, attending Iowa State University and earning a law degree from Drake University Law School. Career He served as an assistant Iowa attorney general before being elected to the Iowa House in 1966. Rather than seek re-election in 1968, he ran for Iowa Attorney General, winning the Democratic nomination before losing the general election to Republican Richard C. Turner. Doggy Style (band)
Doggy Style is a punk rock band from Placentia, California, and was part of the North Orange County punk rock scene that included bands from the surrounding cities of Fullerton and Anaheim that formed in 1983. Daddy X of the Kottonmouth Kings, and co-founder of Suburban Noize Records, was the original vocalist, and creator of the band. Their debut EP ''Work As One'' was released on a 7" record, on Mystic Records. About Doggy Style/members Doggy Style started with original singer Brad Xavier, Ed "Shaggy" Caudill, Ray Jimenez, and Lou Gaez. Their first release was their 1984 EP ''Work as One'', on Mystic Records included the song "Donut Shop Rock". Brad only did vocals for two other releases, ''Side by Side'' in 1985 and ''Live at Sun City'' in 1986 both on Flipside Records. USNS ''Mission Los Angeles'' (T-AO-117) was a that served in the United States Navy. The ship was originally intended as USS ''Conecuh'' (AO-103) for the U.S. Navy but her acquisition was canceled. The ship, a Type T2-SE-A3 tanker, was completed as SS ''Mission Los Angeles'' and delivered after the end of World War II. The tanker was acquired by the U.S. Navy in 1948 as USS ''Mission Los Angeles'' (AO-117), but was transferred to the Military Sea Transport Service upon its creation in 1949. The ship was named for Nuestra Señora Reina de los Angeles Asistencia (a "sub-mission" to Mission San Gabriel Arcángel, one of the twenty-one California missions), she was the only U.S. Naval Vessel to bear the name.
