Dan Friel
Daniel Friel (1860–1911) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a centre half. He started his career in his native Scotland with Vale of Leven before moving to England to join Accrington in 1883. Later that year, Friel was signed by nearby Burnley and he made his debut for the club in the friendly match against Witton on 10 November 1883. However, the game was abandoned at half-time after the visitors refused to play in the heavy rain despite being a goal ahead. Friel scored his first goals for Burnley in the 5–0 win against Eagley two weeks later. Over the following seasons, he became an integral member of the Burnley team and was part of the side that won the Hospital Cup in 1884 and 1886. Bonhill
Bonhill (; ) is a town in the Vale of Leven area of West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. It is sited on the Eastern bank of the River Leven, Dunbartonshire, River Leven, on the opposite bank from the larger town of Alexandria, Scotland, Alexandria. History The area is mentioned in a charter of 1225 giving the monks from Paisley Abbey fishing rights on the east bank of the River Leven at the Linbrane pool. Bonhill Parish was noted in a charter of 1270 as "the parish of Buthehille", and the name became Bonyle about 1550, with the variants Binnuill, Bonuil and Bonill appearing before Bonhill was adopted by 1700. Non-League football describes association football, football leagues played outside the top leagues of a country. Usually, it describes leagues which are not fully professional. The term is primarily used for football in England, where it is specifically used to describe all football played at levels below those of the Premier League (20 clubs) and the three divisions of the English Football League (EFL; 72 clubs). Currently, a non-League team would be any club playing in the National League (English football), National League or below that level. Thomas Midgley (1856 - 1957) was an English professional association football, footballer who played in the Football League, League football, as an inside forward, for Burnley F.C., Burnley. Born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, Midgley became a teacher and worked in Culham, Oxford and Ripon before being appointed as headmaster at Grant's School, Burnley in the late 1870s. As early as 1880 at Carlton Road School he had children playing association football. Midgley then became a player and the captain of the Burnley F.C., Burnley Rovers Rugby club. In May 1882, the club changed codes to association football and changed its name to Burnley F.C., Burnley. He represented the club in many of the early friendly matches, but by the time the Football League was formed in 1888, Midgley was nearing the end of his career as a footballer. Deepdale is a football stadium in the Deepdale area of Preston, England that is the home ground of Preston North End. Built in 1875 and in use since 1878, Deepdale is recognised as being one of the oldest continuously used football stadiums in the world, although the club's claim that it is the oldest is contested. Turf Moor
Turf Moor is an association football stadium in Burnley, Lancashire, England, which has been the home of Burnley F.C., Burnley Football Club since 1883. This unbroken service makes Turf Moor the second-longest continuously used ground in Football in England, English professional football. The stadium is situated on Harry Potts Way, named after Harry Potts, the manager who won the 1959–60 Football League, 1959–60 First Division with the club, and has a capacity of 21,944. The Turf Moor site has been used for sporting activities since at least 1843, when Burnley Cricket Club moved to the area.
