DaNae Elizabeth Couch, (born August 6, 1988) is an American beauty pageant titleholder from Coppell, Texas who was named Miss Texas 2012. Biography She won the title of Miss Texas on July 7, 2012, when she received her crown from outgoing titleholder Kendall Morris. Couch’s platform is “Hope for Family Recovery: Life Beyond Addiction” and she said she hoped to address drug education, addiction awareness, and recovery resources in schools. Her competition talent was a twirling routine to “You Can't Stop the Beat.” Couch graduated with a degree in English and a minor in Public Relations from Baylor University, where she was also a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. While attending Baylor, Couch was a baton twirler in the Baylor University Golden Wave Band. She is currently in her third year of attending law school at Texas Tech University and is planning to become an attorney specializing in litigation. Miss Texas
The Miss Texas competition was founded in 1937 as a scholarship contest for young women. The winner represents Texas in the Miss America pageant; three winners have gone on to be crowned Miss America (but none since 1975). To become Miss Texas, a contestant must first win a local competition. A young woman may compete at the local and state level more than once, but may only compete in the national Miss America competition one time. Hundreds of women participate each year in the local pageants, culminating in the selection of local finalists who compete for the Miss Texas title each July. The state pageant was held in Fort Worth for 36 years before relocating to the University of Texas at Arlington's Texas Hall in 2009. "You Can't Stop The Beat" is the finale number in the 2002 musical '' Hairspray''. It is sung by Tracy, Link, Penny, Seaweed, Edna, Motor Mouth, Velma, and Amber with Corny and Wilbur as backing singers. Although the lyrics touch on sizeism and racism, the song also references broader themes of change and progression. The song pays tribute to the Phil Spector-produced 1966 Ike & Tina Turner hit " River Deep – Mountain High". Members of the Hairspray Live! cast have lovingly mocked the song as "You Can't Stop to Breathe" Production The song was edited for the 2007 film. Notably the Von Tussle section was removed.
