L-DOPA
-DOPA, also known as -3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine and used medically as levodopa, is made and used as part of the normal biology of some plants and animals, including humans. Humans, as well as a portion of the other animals that utilize -DOPA, make it via biosynthesis from the amino acid -tyrosine. -DOPA is the precursor to the neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine (noradrenaline), and epinephrine (adrenaline), which are collectively known as catecholamines. Furthermore, -DOPA itself mediates neurotrophic factor release by the brain and central nervous system. In some plant families (of the order Caryophyllales), -DOPA is the central precursor of a biosynthetic pathway that produces a class of pigments called betalains. -DOPA can be manufactured and in its pure form is sold as a drug with the '' levodopa''. As a drug, it is used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease and dopamine-responsive dystonia, as well as restless leg syndrome. -DOPA has a counter ... D-DOPA
-DOPA dextrodopa) is similar to (levodopa), but with opposite chirality. Levo- and dextro- rotation refer to a molecule's ability to rotate planes of polarized light in one or the other direction. Whereas is moderately effective in the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD) and dopamine-responsive dystonia (DRD) by stimulating the production of dopamine in the brain, is biologically inactive. It appears as a white microcrystalline granule. Adrenaline is normally produced by the adrenal glands a ... (Adrenaline; Adrenalin, EpiP ... 3,4-Dihydroxyphenylacetic Acid
3,4-Dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) is a metabolite of the neurotransmitter dopamine. Dopamine can be metabolized into one of three substances. One such substance is DOPAC. Another is 3-methoxytyramine (3-MT). Both of these substances are degraded to form homovanillic acid (HVA). Both degradations involve the enzymes monoamine oxidase (MAO) and catechol-O-methyl transferase (COMT), albeit in reverse order: MAO catalyzes dopamine to DOPAC, and COMT catalyzes DOPAC to HVA; whereas COMT catalyzes dopamine to 3-MT and MAO catalyzes 3-MT to HVA. The third metabolic end-product of dopamine is norepinephrine (noradrenaline). It can also be found in the bark of ''Eucalyptus globulus''. This product has been synthesized (52% yield) from 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid via aerobic biotransformation using whole cell cultures of ''Arthrobacter protophormiae ''Glutamicibacter protophormiae'' is a bacterium belonging to the genus ''Glutamicibacter''.
