Chief Of Air Staff (Bangladesh)
The Chief Of Air Staff (abbreviated as COAS) ( bn, বিমান বাহিনী প্রধান, Biman Bahini Pradhan) is the professional head and highest appointment of the Bangladesh Air Force. Only pilots (officers from GDP branch) get this post. The appointment is held by a four-star air officer and the current COAS is Air Chief Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan. Prior to 2016, from 2007 the appointment was held by an Air Marshal (three-star air officer) and from 1972 to 2007 COAS's rank was Air Vice Marshal. Air Chief Marshal
Air chief marshal (Air Chf Mshl or ACM) is a high-ranking air officer originating from the Royal Air Force. The rank is used by air forces of many countries that have historical British influence. An air chief marshal is equivalent to an Admiral in a navy or a full general in an army or other nations' air forces. The rank of air chief marshal is immediately senior to the rank of air marshal but subordinate to marshal of the air force. Air chief marshals are sometimes generically considered to be air marshals. Abu Esrar
Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, NDC, ACSC was the 14th Chief of the Air Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force. He took over as the chief on 12 June 2015 from Air Marshal Enamul Bari. He is the first four-star air officer (Air Chief Marshal) of Bangladesh. He was promoted to ACM on 16 January 2016. Birth Esrar was born in 1961 in Gazipur to Abu Ayub and Akhtarunnesa. Air Marshal (retd.) Muhammad Enamul Bari is a former Bangladesh Air Force officer whose last assignment before retiring was the 13th Chief of Air Staff of Bangladesh Air Force. Air Marshal Shah Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, ndc, fawc, psc (born 1955) was Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force. He was preceded by Air Vice Marshal Fakhrul Azam, ndc, psc. Air Vice Marshal (retd.) Fakhrul Azam, ndc, psc was the Chief of the Air Staff of Bangladesh Air Force from 2002 to 2007. He studied in the prestigious Sargodha College of Pakistan Air Force. Air Marshal (retd.) Jamal Uddin Ahmed is a former Chief of Air Staff, the highest appointment in the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF), and former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Biman Bangladesh. He was promoted to Air Marshal by then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the day of his retirement from the BAF in 2001.
