Women Art Historians
Women were professionally active in the academic discipline of art history in the nineteenth century and participated in the important shift early in the century that began involving an "''Emphatically Corporeal Visual Subject''", with Vernon Lee as a notable example. It is argued that in the twentieth century women art historians (and curators), by choosing to study women artists, "dramatically" "increased their visibility". It has been written that women artists pre-1974 were historically one of two groups; women art historians and authors who self-consciously address high school audiences through the publication of textbooks. The relative "newness" of this field of study for women, paired with the possibility of interdisciplinary focus, emphasizes the importance of visibility of all global women in the art history field. Early Netherlandish painting is the body of work by artists active in the Burgundian Netherlands, Burgundian and Habsburg Netherlands during the 15th- and 16th-century Northern Renaissance period, once known as the Flemish Primitives. Asia Institute
The Asia Institute (1928–1979) was an American organization in support of research and interest in Persian art and archaeology; and starting in 1964 it was funded by the Pahlavi-era Iran. Two remnants from the Asia Institute are the ''Bulletin of the Asia Institute'', published in the United States, and the Qavam House museum (or Narenjestan) at Shiraz University, Iran. Catherine De Zegher
Catherine de Zegher (born Marie-Catherine Alma Gladys de Zegher Groningen, April 14, 1955) is a Belgian curator and a modern and contemporary art historian. She has a degree in art history and archaeology from the University of Ghent. Carol Armstrong
Carol Armstrong is an American professor, art historian, art critic, and photographer. Armstrong teaches and writes about 19th-century French art, the history of photography, the history and practice of art criticism, feminist theory and women and gender representation in visual culture. Education Armstrong received her Ph.D. from Princeton University's Department of Art and Archaeology. Career Armstrong taught at the University of California, Berkeley, where she was a Townsend Fellow, and received tenure in 1990.
