Xanthi Football Club () is a Greek Association football, football club based in Xanthi, Western Thrace. They play their home matches at Skoda Xanthi Arena Founded in 1967, Xanthi is well set up in terms of their financial support and youth setup. Xanthi participated in the UEFA Europa League, UEFA Cup / Europa League in 2001-02 UEFA Cup, 2001–02, 2005-06 UEFA Cup, 2005–06, 2006-07 UEFA Cup, 2006–07 and 2013–14 UEFA Europa League, 2013–14 seasons. In the 2004-05 in Greek football, 2004–05 season, Xanthi finished fourth in the Alpha Ethinki (First Division, today Super League Greece, Super League), the club's all-time best performance. Xanthi's first appearance in the first division was in 1989, and the club remained in the top flight until its relegation in 2020. Xanthi FC Arena is a football ground built by Xanthi F.C. in Xanthi, Thrace, Greece. It was built over the course of ten months in 2004. It holds up to 7,244 spectators, with 80% of the seats under the roof. The stadium was built because of a disagreement between then FC Skoda Xanthi and the amateur club AO Xanthi. It is situated in an area where the club had built its training facilities (Xanthi Athletic Center). The stadium was officially inaugurated by the Brazilian legend Pelé on 12 May 2005. Capacity The stadium's official capacity is 7,244 (all seated). It only has three stands, the fourth was promised but this never materialised, so there are boards behind the goal at one end. Location The stadium is located near Pigadia, Xanthi, Pigadia, a village 5 km east of Xanthi. This city is in the region of Thrace (230 km east of Thessaloniki). Emerson Moisés Costa (born 12 April 1972), known simply as Emerson, is a Brazilian retired professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. Howard Kendall
Howard Kendall (22 May 1946 – 17 October 2015) was an English footballer and manager. Kendall joined Preston North End as an apprentice and stayed with the club when he turned professional. He was a runner-up in the 1964 FA Cup with Preston, and at 17 years 345 days was the youngest player to play in a Wembley final. In 1967 he joined Everton, where he played in midfield with Alan Ball and Colin Harvey, the trio gaining the nickname "The Holy Trinity". With Everton, Kendall won the First Division title, the Charity Shield, and was again an FA Cup runner-up. He became Everton captain for three years before being sold to Birmingham City in 1974.
