Wong Chuk Hang
Wong Chuk Hang () is a neighbourhood in the Southern District, Hong Kong, Southern District of Hong Kong Island, in Hong Kong. History Neolithic artifacts have been unearthed in a region called Chung Hom Wan, which is not far from Wong Chuk Hang. In 1550 the Hong Kong Village () was established in Wong Chuk Hang; it still exists, much diminished in size, as Wong Chuk Hang Kau Wai. A satellite village, Wong Chuk Hang San Wai, was established in the 1860s and 1870s. The name Staunton (along with valley and creek) is likely linked to Sir George Staunton, 2nd Baronet. Ocean Park Hong Kong
Ocean Park Hong Kong, commonly known simply as Ocean Park, is an animal theme park in Hong Kong. Covering an area of in Wong Chuk Hang, it is the largest theme park by area in Hong Kong, and is also the city's second oldest theme park, after the now-defunct Lai Chi Kok Amusement Park. Opened on 10 January 1977, Ocean Park became popular, but 28 years later, it was unprofitable and widely expected to close due to the new Hong Kong Disneyland. Prehistoric Hong Kong
Prehistoric Hong Kong is the period between the arrival of the first humans in Hong Kong and the start of recorded Chinese history during the Han dynasty. The history of the southern region (which may possibly include Hong Kong) is reckoned to have been first recorded in 214 BC with Qin Shi Huang conquering the Baiyue and creating the Jiaozhou province. The prehistorical period can be divided into Stone Age and Bronze Age. Archaeology evidence suggests the earliest human settlement was in the Wong Tei Tung area dating back to 38,000 BC. Stone Age Palaeolithic Evidence of an Upper Paleolithic settlement in Hong Kong was found at Wong Tei Tung in Sham Chung beside the Three Fathoms Cove in Sai Kung Peninsula. South Island Line
The South Island line () is a rapid transit line of Hong Kong's MTR metro system. This line connects the Hong Kong business district from Admiralty station to the Southern District of Hong Kong Island and the island of Ap Lei Chau, which was not served by any rail transport prior to the opening of the line. Approved by the Executive Council in 2007, the line commenced service on 28 December 2016. It is indicated in on the MTR map. The rolling stock of the South Island line is purpose-built for driverless operation, with trains being remotely controlled from the Operations Control Centre in Tsing Yi. Wong Chuk Hang Station
Wong Chuk Hang () is an elevated MTR rapid transit station in Hong Kong on the eastern section of the , built on the Staunton Creek Nullah and off the old site of Wong Chuk Hang Estate in Staunton Creek (Chung Mei). The station opened on 28 December 2016 with the rest of the South Island line. It is named after the locality of the same name further east and serves residents in that area. The station is connected to a public transport interchange on a widened section of Heung Yip Road. A network of footbridges serves future commercial and residential areas, and the station exists as a hub to the Shum Wan area as a whole. The South Island line depot is located to the south. Ocean Park Station
Ocean Park () is an MTR rapid transit station in Hong Kong on the eastern section of the , which serves Ocean Park Hong Kong and Wong Chuk Hang. The station opened on 28 December 2016 with the rest of the South Island line. It takes around 10 minutes to travel from to Ocean Park station, which is 21 minutes faster than taking the Citybus route 629 from Admiralty station to Hong Kong Ocean Park. The station is built above ground, north of Ocean Park Road, above the Ocean Park Bus Depot. A footbridge links the station with the park entrance. The station has three entrances/exits. History The station was constructed under Contract 903, which included the construction of both Ocean Park and Wong Chuk Hang stations as well as the Aberdeen Channel Bridge. Aberdeen Tunnel
Aberdeen Tunnel, part of Route 1, is a dual-carriageway tunnel linking Happy Valley and Wong Chuk Hang near Aberdeen on the Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It shortens the travel time between Wong Chuk Hang and Causeway Bay of the Hong Kong Island. It connects the Wong Chuk Hang Road and Canal Road Flyover in the Hong Kong Island. The toll plaza is at the Wong Chuk Hang end. The toll is HK$5. The tunnel is long and was used by 64,114 vehicles daily in 2015. In 2023, 21.9 million vehicles used the tunnel. Wong Chuk Hang Estate
Wong Chuk Hang Estate () was a Public housing in Hong Kong, public housing estate in Staunton Creek, Hong Kong. The estate had ten residential blocks and was cleared in 2007. The estate has been replaced by the MTR Wong Chuk Hang station and Wong Chuk Hang train station, Depot. Background Wong Chuk Hang Estate was the only Government Low Cost Housing Estate on Hong Kong Island in the 1960s and the 1970s. It consisted of 10 residential blocks that were developed in 3 phases. Phase 1 (Block 1 and 2), Phase 2 (Block 3 to 6) and Phase 3 (Block 7 to 10) were completed in 1968, 1972 and 1973 respectively. In 1973, the estate was renamed Wong Chuk Hang Estate. In 1985, Block 9 was found to have structural problems by Hong Kong Housing Authority, and was demolished in 1988.
