Witten () is a city with almost 100,000 inhabitants in the Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis (district) in North Rhine-Westphalia, in western Germany. Herbede
Since 1975 the former city of Herbede is a part of the city of Witten (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). As one of the eight boroughs of Witten, it is now called Witten-Herbede. Before the incorporation with Witten in 1975, Herbede was a city in the administrative district Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis. Herbede is placed about 5 kilometres southwest of the city of Witten in the southern Ruhr area in the Ruhr valley and has about 13,100 inhabitants today. Herbede has good bus connections and is served by bus lines 320, 374, 375, SB38, SB67 and at the weekend by night bus NE17. There are direct bus connections to central Witten, Witten-Annen, Witten-Rüdinghausen, Witten-Heven, Ruhr University Bochum, Wetter, Gevelsberg, Ennepetal, Hattingen and Wuppertal. Witten-Stockum
Witten-Stockum is a borough of the City of Witten in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It has about 6300 inhabitants (2003). History Stockum was first mentioned in 882 as ''villa stochem''. ''Villa stochem'' was a little castle that was owned by a knight who called himself "op der Heyde". During the so-called Dortmunder Fehde in 1388/89, Stochem was burned down by soldiers from the Archbishop of Cologne, who fought a war against Dortmund, just a few kilometres north of the village. In 1423/24 it was burned down for the second time - this time by troops of the Margrave of the County Mark who fought a war against his own brother. Witten-Annen
Since 1929, Annen has been a part of the City of Witten (since 1946 North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). As one of the eight boroughs of Witten, it is now called Witten-Annen. Before the incorporation with Witten in 1929, Annen was part of the administrative district Landkreis Hoerde. Today, Annen has about 19,000 inhabitants and is the biggest of all boroughs of Witten. Witten-Annen has an institute for Waldorf pedagogics, as well as a Waldorf school. This school annually hosts the international eurythmy festival, Forum Eurythmie. The Hohenstein is the central forest of Witten, (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). As a forest its name is just "Hohenstein". But "Hohenstein" is also the name of a city-district of Witten's borough "Mitte". It has the district-number 19. As a district it has nearly no population. Herdecke
Herdecke () is a town in the district of Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis, North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. It is located south of Dortmund in the Ruhr Area. Its location between the two Ruhr (river), Ruhr reservoirs Hengsteysee and Harkortsee has earned it the nickname ''Die Stadt zwischen den Ruhrseen'' (lit. ''The city between the Ruhr lakes''). Hattingen
Hattingen is a town in the northern part of the Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis district, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. History Hattingen is located on the south bank of the River Ruhr in the south of the Ruhr region. The town was first mentioned in 1396, when the Duke of Mark granted permission to build a city wall. Description and history The source of the Ruhr is near the town of Winterberg in the mountainous Sauerland region, at an elevation of approximately .
