Wilsdruff
Wilsdruff () is a town in the Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge, in Saxony, Germany, with 14,444 inhabitants (2020). It is situated 14 km west of Dresden centre. Kesselsdorf is one of its subdivisions. Near Wilsdruff there is a facility for high power broadcasting, the Wilsdruff transmitter. Wilsdruff is home to KNOX, a traditional incense manufacturer and magnussoft, a computer game developer. In 2017 the town made headlines as 36% of the population voted the German right-wing party AfD ( Alternative für Deutschland) while in the same year only 10 asylum seekers sought refuge in Wilsdruff. Wilsdruff Transmitter
The transmitter Wilsdruff was a medium wave radio broadcasting facility near Wilsdruff, Germany. Until the 1990s there was a transmitter for 1044 kHz with 250 kilowatts transmission power. This was a 153-metre guyed steel tube mast, insulated with respect to ground. Since the mid nineties transmission power was only 20 kilowatts. The new transmitter is in a circular building on which the mast stands. The old transmitter of the fifties is a technical monument. The whole facility is a relic from the Joseph Stalin era with a high fence (double fence with dog track and watchtowers) which is still almost complete. Diesel engines are employed for an emergency power supply, modified from World War II submarine engines. The program "MDR info" transmitted from here on 1044 kHz until 2013. KNOX (candles)
KNOX is the trade mark of the oldest incense manufacturers in Germany. It is based in the little village of Grund (Wilsdruff), Mohorn-Grund in the borough of Wilsdruff and run by the firm of Hermann Zwetz, Chemist's. In 1865 the chemist, whose name the firm now bears, sold the incense candles, known as ''Räucherkerzchen'' as a Cure, remedy for whooping cough and asthma. Only later were the little candles used for Christmas festivities. Today about 50 tonne (unit), tonnes of incense products are manufactured annually in 30 scent varieties in the factory premises that were newly built in 1997. The company, which continued in private hands even in East Germany, East German times, also has a small museum in which there is much to discover about incense products, especially from Saxony, but also from the rest of the world. Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains (, ) is a district ('' Kreis'') in Saxony, Germany. It is named after the mountain ranges Saxon Switzerland and Eastern Ore Mountains. History The district was established by merging the former districts of Sächsische Schweiz and Weißeritzkreis as part of the district reform of August 2008. magnussoft Deutschland GmbH is a German computer game developer and publisher. The company is seated in Kesselsdorf, close to the Saxon capital of Dresden. In the 1980s magnussoft released collections of software for popular 8-bit home computer systems: Commodore 64, Amiga, Atari 8-bit computers, and Atari ST. The games can also run on newer computer systems, such as Intel-based IBM PCs, using emulators.
