WWE Payback was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) and livestreaming List of WWE pay-per-view and livestreaming supercards, event produced by WWE, a Connecticut-based professional wrestling promotion. It has been broadcast on PPV since its Payback (2013), inaugural 2013 event, the WWE Network since Payback (2014), 2014, and Peacock (streaming service), Peacock beginning with the Payback (2023), 2023 event. The concept of the event is the wrestlers seeking payback against their opponents. The event was established in 2013 and replaced WWE No Way Out, No Way Out in the mid-June slot of WWE's pay-per-view calendar. It continued to be held annually until Payback (2017), 2017; in Payback (2015), 2015, the event moved up to the May slot, and was then moved to late-April in 2017. The 2016 Payback was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) and livestreaming event produced by WWE. It was the fourth annual Payback and took place on May 1, 2016, at the Allstate Arena in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois, marking the third Payback held at this venue after the 2013 and 2014 events. The event is considered by WWE to be the first PPV event of The New Era and was the last Payback event to take place before the reintroduction of the brand extension in July. The brand extension, also referred to as the brand split, is the separation of the American professional wrestling promotion WWE's roster of wrestlers (and, at various times, creative staff) into distinct divisions, or "brands". The promotion's wrestlers are assigned to a brand via the annual WWE Draft and exclusively perform on that brand's weekly television show, with some exceptions. The WWE ThunderDome was a bio-secure bubble created by the American professional wrestling promotion WWE. It was launched in August 2020 as a way for professional wrestling fans to attend WWE events virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic. The bubble was a videoconferencing crowd system and arena staging utilized for broadcasts of television shows and pay-per-view/livestreaming events of the promotion's Raw and SmackDown brand divisions.
