The Vuelta a San Juan is an annual road cycling stage race held in Argentine. Typically consisting of seven stages, beginning and ending in San Juan, the race was first held in 1982. In 2017, the race was classified as a 2.1 event by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), and expanded to included international, professional teams. Taking place in January, the race was viewed as a useful event for UCI WorldTour cyclists to get racing experience early in the season, before the start of the European season. It was called "the most prestigious competition in Latin America" by the Pan American Cycling Confederation. In 2020, the race was promoted to the UCI ProSeries and given a 2.Pro status. The race was cancelled in 2021 and 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the 2023 edition, the race was removed from the UCI calendar. San Juan Province, Argentina
San Juan Province () is a Provinces of Argentina, province of Argentina, located in the western part of the country. UCI ProSeries
The UCI ProSeries is the second tier men's elite road bicycle racer, road cycling tour. It was inaugurated in 2020 UCI ProSeries, 2020. The series is placed below the UCI World Tour, but above the various regional UCI Continental Circuits. Development In December 2018, the Union Cycliste Internationale, UCI announced various reforms to the structure and organisation of men's professional road racing. One of the major changes is the introduction of a new division of races called the UCI ProSeries. With the introduction of the ProSeries, the UCI .HC road races disappeared from the calendar. The UCI Continental Circuits are a series of road bicycle racing competitions which were introduced in 2005 by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) to expand cycling around the world. The five circuits (representing the continents of Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania) are ranked below the UCI World Tour. Gonzalo Joaquín Najar (born 27 November 1993) is an Argentine cyclist, who is currently suspended from the sport after a positive doping test. Career Najar was the 2017 Argentina national champion. 2018 Vuelta a San Juan Najar won the 5th stage of the 2018 Vuelta a San Juan. Heading into the 5th stage, he was in 14th place, but after the stage he had over a minute lead. The 2017 Vuelta a San Juan was a road cycling stage race that took place between 23 and 29 January. It was the 35th edition of the Vuelta a San Juan and the first time it was rated as a 2.1 event on the UCI America Tour calendar. The race was won by Bauke Mollema for the team; after finishing second to 's Ramūnas Navardauskas in the third stage individual time trial, Mollema took the race leader's blue jersey from Navardauskas two days later, atop the Alto Colorado – in a stage won by 's Rui Costa – and maintained a 14-second race lead to the end of the race.
