Vesthimmerland Municipality
Vesthimmerland Municipality () is a '' kommune'' in the North Jutland Region of Denmark. It covers an area of 768,08 km² (2013) and has a total population of 35,818 (2025). The Municipality borders Jammerbugt Municipality to the south and to the east it borders Rebild and Aalborg Municipality and to the south it borders Viborg Municipality and to the south-east it borders Mariagerfjord Municipality. On 1 January 2007, Vesthimmerland municipality was created as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), consisting of the former municipalities of Aalestrup, Farsø, Løgstør, and Aars. The municipal seat is the city of Aars, which also was the seat in the former Aars Municipality. Municipalities Of Denmark
Denmark is divided into five regions of Denmark, regions, which contain 98 municipalities (, ; , ). Aars Municipality
Aars Municipality was a municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') in northern Denmark, in the county of North Jutland on the peninsula of Jutland. It was established as a result of the 1970 Danish Municipal Reform and ceased to exist following the Municipal reform of 2007. Today, the region is located within Vesthimmerland Municipality. History The municipality was established by the 1970 reforms which grouped parishes into municipalities. Aars municipality was made up of the parishes of: Blære, Gislum, Giver, Gundersted, Havbro, Skivum, Ulstrup, Vognsild, and Aars parish. Jens Lauritzen
Jens Lauritzen (born 3 December 1953) is a Danish politician who has been Mayor of the Vesthimmerland Municipality from 2006 to 2010, he is/was from Venstre. Lauritzen is educated in agriculture. Since 1981 he has been an independent farmer, but has also worked as a supervisor in a construction company. He began his political career as a member of Løgstør Municipal Council in Løgstør in 1986. He became mayor of Løgstør Municipality in 1998. Overlade
Overlade is a village in western Himmerland, Denmark, with a population of 396 (1 January 2025), located 12 km north from Farsø, 16 km south of Løgstør, 3 kilometers from the Limfjord and seven kilometers south of Ranum. Hvalpsund
Hvalpsund is a ferry port in Himmerland with a population of 631 (1 January 2024), located 20 km west of Aalestrup, 12 km southwest of Farsø and 25 km southwest of Aars. The town belongs to the municipality of Vesthimmerland Municipality and is located in the Region Nordjylland. History Færgekroen The first royal license to run a ferry on the sound is from 1532. Because of the strong stream the ferry was a kind of barge that was rowed by 4 men. Gedsted
Gedsted is a small town in Himmerland with a population of 874 (1 January 2025), located in Gedsted parish. The town belongs to the municipality of Vesthimmerland Municipality and is located in the North Denmark Region. The town is located on a hillside near Louns Bredning around 10 km south of Farsø. Hornum is a town in western Himmerland with a population of 926 (1. January 2025), located 21 km southeast of Løgstør and 9 km northwest of Aars. Livø
Livø () is a 320-hectare Danish island located in the central body of the Limfjord, approximately midway between Nykøbing Mors, Løgstør, Fjerritslev and Thisted.
