Edward Wilson Very (October 26, 1847 – March 1, 1910) was a United States Navy officer who adopted and popularized a single-shot breech-loading snub-nosed flare gun that fired flares that bear his name (Very lights). During his naval career he captained a gunboat off the shores of Japan, held positions in engineering, naval ordnance, artillery and signal staff postings and saw diplomatic service with the U.S. Legation in Paris. Early life and education Very was born in Belfast, Maine, and, at the age of , was admitted to the U.S. Naval Academy from the Washington Territory. His was the first appointment ever issued from that territory. He entered the academy in February 1863. He was granted a leave of absence in June 1864 for active service during the Civil War. Very Idham Henyansyah, also known as Ryan, is an Indonesian convicted serial killer. Henyansyah confessed to killing 11 people and was sentenced to death by the Indonesian criminal court after being arrested in 2008. He is awaiting execution at Kesambi Penitentiary in Cirebon. Henyansyah's case achieved notoriety throughout Indonesia due to the gruesome nature of the murders. Known for his uncontrollable temper, Ryan killed a mother and her child by bashing their heads with a metal bar after they had angered him. The body of one victim was found on a roadside in Jakarta, dismembered into seven pieces and skewered with a crowbar. Lydia Louisa Anna Very (November 2, 1823 – September 10, 1901) was an American writer, educator, and illustrator known for authoring the earliest shape books in America. Biography She was born in Salem, Massachusetts, the daughter of two first cousins, Lydia Very and Jones Very, a captain during the War of 1812. Her brother Jones Very, Jones became a Transcendentalist poet and clergyman. She became a teacher at the age of 18 and spent most of her 34-year teaching career in the local public schools. Jones Very (August 28, 1813 – May 8, 1880) was an American poet, essayist, clergyman, and mystic associated with the American Transcendentalism movement. He was known as a scholar of William Shakespeare, and many of his poems were Shakespearean sonnets. He was well-known and respected among the Transcendentalists. Born in Salem, Massachusetts to two unwed first cousins, Jones Very became associated with Harvard University, first as an undergraduate, then as a student in the Harvard Divinity School and as a tutor of Greek. Frank Washington Very (February 12, 1852 – November 23, 1927) was a U.S. astronomer, astrophysicist, and meteorologist. He was born in Salem, Massachusetts, and educated at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1873) where he taught physics after his graduation.
