Veronicellidae
The Veronicellidae, also known by their common name the leatherleaf slugs, are a family of pulmonate terrestrial slugs. The herbivorous molluscs occur mainly in the tropical and subtropical areas of America, Asia and Africa. They act as intermediate hosts of the rat lung worm '' Angiostrongylus costaricensis'', and act as a vector for other human diseases. They also cause significant damage to crops. Description The dorsal surface of these slugs is entirely covered by the mantle or hyponota. These mollusks have a posterior located anus, eyes on contractile (not retractile) tentacles, and no lung or pulmonary organ. In these aspects they are anatomically distinct from most other types of terrestrial slugs, which typically belong to the order Stylommatophora, and which have a forward located anus, and retractile tentacles. The closely related members of the family Onchidiidae differ from the Veronicellidae by having a pulmonary sac, or lung. Distribution Members of the f ...

Colosius
''Colosius'' is a genus of air-breathing land slugs, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Veronicellidae, the leatherleaf slugs. The generic name ''Colosius'' is in honor of the Italian zoologist Giuseppe Colosi, who described a few species belonging to this genus in 1921. Thomé established the genus ''Colosius'' for five species in 1975. Gomes et al. synonymized ''Colosius propinquus'' with ''Colosius pulcher'' and discovered another new ''Colosius'' species in 2012. Distribution The distribution of the genus ''Colosius'' includes Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Haiti. Species Species within the genus ''Colosius'' include: * '' Colosius buergeri'' (Simroth, 1914) * '' Colosius festae'' (Colosi, 1921) * '' Colosius lugubris'' (Colosi, 1921) - type species * '' Colosius pulcher'' (Colosi, 1921) - synonym: ''Colosius propinquus'' (Colosi, 1921)Thomé J. Slug
Slug, or land slug, is a common name for any apparently shell-less Terrestrial mollusc, terrestrial gastropod mollusc. The word ''slug'' is also often used as part of the common name of any gastropod mollusc that has no shell, a very reduced shell, or only a small internal shell, particularly sea slugs and semi-slugs (this is in contrast to the common name ''snail'', which applies to gastropods that have a coiled shell large enough that they can fully retract their soft parts into it). Various Taxonomy (biology), taxonomic families of land slugs form part of several quite different evolutionary lineages, which also include snails. Thus, the various families of slugs are not closely related, despite the superficial similarity in overall body form. The shell-less condition has arisen many times independently as an example of convergent evolution, and thus the category "slug" is Polyphyly, polyphyletic. Taxonomy Of the six orders of Pulmonata, two – the Onchidiacea and Soleoli ...

Veronicella Sloanei
''Veronicella sloanii'', commonly called the pancake slug, is a species of air-breathing land slug, a terrestrial, pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Veronicellidae, the leatherleaf slugs. Description When extended, this slug can attain a length of 12 cm (5 in.). It is highly variable in coloration and positive identification depends on dissection and inspection of the genitalia. It is usually very pale in color, ranging from mottle pale yellow, cream to white. It may have irregular black spotting or speckling all over the dorsal surface that may coalesce into two poorly defined bands running down either side of the body; in the juveniles, these two bands may be clearer and better defined as grey bands, especially anteriorly. Occasionally the slug can be mostly brownish. The only constant color character among different Caribbean island populations is the eye stalk, which is bluish grey with a light brown tip. Distribution The indigenous distribution of ''Veroni ...
