Utah Utes Baseball
The Utah Utes baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball program of University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. The program's first season was in 1892, and it was a member of the NCAA Division I Pac-12 Conference from the start of the 2012 season until the conference's collapse after the 2024 season. The Utes will join the Big 12 Conference for the 2025 season and beyond. Through the 2024 season, its home venue has been Smith's Ballpark, located in downtown Salt Lake City. With the ballpark's main tenant, the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees, opening the new Daybreak Field in nearby South Jordan in 2025, combined with the planned redevelopment of the Smith's Ballpark site, the university is building the new on-campus America First Ballpark and plans to open it for the 2026 season. Big 12 Conference
The Big 12 Conference is a collegiate List of NCAA conferences, athletic conference in the United States. It consists of 16 full-member universities (3 private universities and 13 public universities) in the states of Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and West Virginia. It is headquartered in Irving, Texas. The Big 12 is a member of the NCAA Division I, Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for all sports. Western Athletic Conference
The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) is an NCAA Division I conference. The WAC covers a broad expanse of the Western United States with member institutions located in Arizona, California, Texas, Utah and Washington (state), Washington. Due to most of the conference's College football, football-playing members leaving the WAC for other affiliations, the conference discontinued football as a sponsored sport after the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season, 2012–13 season, left the NCAA's NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as Division I-A) and became one of the NCAA's eleven Division I non-football conferences. 2016 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The 2016 NCAA Division I baseball tournament began on Friday, June 3, 2016, as part of the 2016 NCAA Division I baseball season. The 64-team, double-elimination tournament concluded with the 2016 College World Series (CWS) in Omaha, Nebraska, starting on June 18, 2016, and ending on June 30, 2016. The 64 participating NCAA Division I college baseball teams were selected out of 298 eligible teams. Thirty-one teams were awarded an automatic bid, as champions of their conferences; the remaining 33 teams were selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. The 2009 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was held from May 29 through June 24, 2009 and is part of the 2009 NCAA Division I baseball season. The 64 NCAA Division I college baseball teams were selected out of an eligible 286 teams on May 25, 2009. Mountain West Conference
The Mountain West Conference (MW) is a collegiate athletic conference in the Western United States, participating in NCAA Division I. Its football teams compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The MW officially began operations on January 4, 1999. Geographically, the MW covers a broad expanse of the Western United States, with member schools located in California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming and Hawaii. Tim Esmay
Tim Esmay is an American baseball coach. He is the former head coach of the Arizona State Sun Devils baseball team. He was the head coach of the Arizona State Sun Devils baseball team from prior to the 2010 season until the end of the 2014 season, when he announced his resignation. Esmay is an Arizona State alumnus, and he played baseball there from 1986–1987. After graduating from Arizona State in 1987, Esmay served as an assistant at Arizona State, Grand Canyon, and Utah. He was Utah's head coach from 1997–2004, before he was hired as an assistant at Arizona State prior to the 2005 season. From 2005–2009, Esmay served as an assistant under Pat Murphy. Following the 2009 season, Murphy was forced to resign due to violations of NCAA rules regarding student-athlete employment and recruiting. Bill Kinneberg
William Arthur Kinneberg (born July 4, 1957) is an American former college baseball coach. He served as head baseball coach of the Utah Utes in 1996 and from 2005 to 2021. Coach Kinneberg lead the Utes to the university's first ever men's Pac-12 championship in the 2016 season, finishing with a 26–29 overall record. Early life and education Born in Sewell, Chile, Kinneberg grew up in Douglas and Morenci, Arizona and Silver City, New Mexico, where he graduated from Silver High School in 1975. Kinneberg began his college baseball career at the junior college level pitching for Central Arizona College from 1976 to 1977 and transferred to the University of Arizona to play for the Arizona Wildcats from 1978 to 1979 under Jerry Kindall. Richard Michael Sofield (born December 16, 1956) is a former Major League Baseball outfielder. He was the Pittsburgh Pirates third base coach from 2013 to 2016 and was the manager of their Class-A South Atlantic League team the West Virginia Power during the 2012 season.
