Ulvophyceae
The Ulvophyceae or ulvophytes are a class of green algae, distinguished mainly on the basis of Ultrastructure, ultrastructural morphology, Biological life cycle, life cycle and molecular phylogenetics, molecular phylogenetic data. The sea lettuce, sea lettuce, ''Ulva'', belongs here. Other well-known members include ''Caulerpa'', ''Codium'', ''Acetabularia'', ''Cladophora'', ''Trentepohlia (alga), Trentepohlia'' and ''Monostroma''. The Ulvophytes are diverse in their Morphology (biology), morphology and their habitat (ecology), habitat. Most are seaweeds such as those listed above. Others, such as ''Rhizoclonium'', ''Pithophora'' and some species of ''Cladophora'' live in fresh water and in some areas are considered weeds. Morphology Ulvophycean algae are diverse in morphology. The thalli are typically colonial (some are unicellular). A few taxa have flagella in their vegetative stage, such as ''Oltmannsiellopsis''. Common forms include filaments (both unbranched and branched) ...

Trichosarcina
''Trichosarcina'' is a genus of green algae in the order Ulotrichales. '' Filoprotococcus'' was once regarded as a synonym. However, ''Filoprotococcus'' is now considered valid in its own right. ''Trichosarcina'' is considered to be of uncertain validity. , AlgaeBase accepted only one species, ''Trichosarcina polymorpha''. Its life cycle includes a uniseriate, '' Hormidium''-like phase; a pluriseriate stage, and, finally, a chain of sarcinoid packets which may dissociate. The cells are uninucleate, with a parietal chloroplast and single pyrenoid. Quadriflagellate zoospore A zoospore is a motile asexual spore that uses a flagellum for locomotion in aqueous or moist environments. Also called a swarm spore, these spores are created by some protists, bacteria, and fungi to propagate themselves. Certain zoospores are ...s are produced by cells of the pluriseriate and sarcinoid stages. References Further reading * * *Thompson, Rufus H., and Daniel E. Wujek. "The Identity of ' ...

Ulotrichaceae
Ulotrichaceae is a family of green algae in the order Ulotrichales. Members of the family are found in both marine and freshwater habitats. Members of the family Ulotrichaceae consist of unbranched filaments. The cells are typically barrel-shaped or cylindrical, wider than long. The cell has a chloroplast which forms a girdle-shaped parietal band; each chloroplast may have several pyrenoids. Asexual reproduction occurs via fragmentation of the filament, or the production of zoospores. Sexual reproduction is isogamous, and involves an alternation of generations Alternation of generations (also known as metagenesis or heterogenesis) is the predominant type of life cycle in plants and algae. In plants both phases are multicellular: the haploid sexual phase – the gametophyte – alternates with a diploi ... between the larger, filamentous gametophyte and a ''Codiolum''-stage sporophyte.
