UMF Selfoss
Ungmennafélag Selfoss (, ), commonly known as Selfoss or UMF Selfoss, is an Icelandic multisport club, located in the town of Selfoss in the Southern Region. In May 2019, the Selfoss men's handball team won the national handball championship for the first time. In August 2019, the women's football team added the club's second major title in one year when it won the Icelandic Football Cup. History Ungmennafélag Selfoss (English: Selfoss' Youth Club) was established on 1 June 1936, as a general sports club for young men and women under the name Ungmennafélagið Tíbrá. On 26 January 1937 its name was changed to Ungmennafélag Selfoss. The 2012 Úrvalsdeild (also known as the "Pepsi-deild" for sponsorship reasons) is the 101st season of top-tier football in Iceland. The season began on 6 May 2012 and concluded 29 September 2012. The league was won by FH, the club's sixth Icelandic league title, while defending champions KR finished as runners-up, some 13 points behind FH. The Besta deild karla () is a professional association football league in Iceland and the highest level of the Icelandic football league system. The competition was founded in 1912 as the Icelandic Championship. Because of the harsh winters in Iceland, it is generally played in the spring and summer (April to September). It is governed by the Football Association of Iceland (KSÍ) and has 12 teams. By the end of the 2022–23 season, UEFA ranked the league No. 48 in Europe. From 27 April 2009 to 2022, the league had an active agreement on the league's name rights with Ölgerðin, the Icelandic franchisee for Pepsi. Marvin Valdimarsson (born 11 August 1981) is an Icelandic former basketball player. At the peak of his career, he was known as a high-scoring forward, leading the 1. deild karla in scoring in 2009, when he was also named as the Player of the Year, and coming in second in scoring in the Úrvalsdeild karla in 2010. Jonathan M. Johnson (born 12 July 1955) is an American former basketball player and coach. He was part of the first influx of foreign basketball players in Iceland in the late 1970s. In 1979, he set the single game scoring record in the Icelandic top-tier Úrvalsdeild karla when he scored 71 points for Fram against ÍS. In 1980, he won the Icelandic championship and the Icelandic cup as an assistant coach with Valur. Early life Johnson was born and grew up in Los Angeles.
