Turbonegro
Turbonegro (Turboneger in Norway) is a Norwegian rock band, active from 1989 to 1998 and from 2002 to the present. The band combines glam rock, punk rock, and hard rock into a self-described "deathpunk" musical style. History Early years (1989–1994) Turbonegro formed in Oslo during the winter of 1988–1989. The initial lineup consisted of Thomas Seltzer (a.k.a. Happy-Tom), Vegard Heskestad, Pål Bøttger Kjærnes, Rune Grønn, Pål Erik Carlin and Tor-Kristian "TK" Jenssen. Seltzer and Heskestad had formerly performed in a band called "De Dype" – a noisy and subversive ensemble inspired by American rock band Butthole Surfers. Early Turbonegro continued that conceptional style. Turbonegro played their first show in March 1989 at Ungdomshuset in Copenhagen, Denmark. Chris Summers (drummer)
Christer Engen (born 7 November 1974), also known by his stage name Chris Summers, is a Norwegian musician best known as the drummer for rock bands Turbonegro, Bigbang and Euroboys. Engen was a founding member of Bigbang and played with the band from 1992 to 1997. He left Bigbang to join Turbonegro in 1997 and released four studio albums with the band until his departure in 2008. He is currently a member of the soft rock band Lady Friend. Career Engen started his musical career when he founded Bigbang together with Øystein Greni while they were in high school. The two shared a common interest in American punk and hardcore bands, as well as classic rock from the 1960s, 70s and 80s. Engen released one album with Bigbang, '' Waxed'', before being asked to join Turbonegro by guitarist Rune Rebellion in 1997. Hank Von Helvete
Hans-Erik Dyvik Husby (15 June 1972 – 19 November 2021), also known as Hank von Helvete in Norway and Hank von Hell internationally, was a Norwegian singer best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Turbonegro. He was a member of Turbonegro from 1993 to 2010, appearing on six studio albums with the band, and later embarked on a solo career. Described as "a charismatic frontman who equally channeled humor and vulnerability", he died on 19 November 2021, at the age of 49. Career Husby began his musical career with the punk band INRI and released the EP ''Breakfast Serial X'' in 1992. He joined Turbonegro the following year, where he would become known for his interactions with the audience while performing. Knut Schreiner
Knut Schreiner (born 18 December 1974) is a Norwegian guitarist. Also known by his stage name Euroboy, he has been part of the Norwegian music scene since the early 1990s as a member of Kåre and the Cavemen (formerly known as Euroboys) and Turbonegro. Schreiner has also been a part the bands The Vikings, Black Diamond Brigade, Mirror Lakes. He has also been in other musical projects and produced other bands, notably Euroboys, Amulet and The Lovethugs. Career As Euroboy Knut Schreiner himself took the stage name Euroboy at the time and was widely known by that moniker. His style of playing was strongly influenced by James Williamson of the Stooges from 1971 to 1974. He was also influenced by Ace Frehley of Kiss and Angus Young of AC/DC. Thomas Seltzer (born 27 July 1969), also known by his stage name Happy-Tom, is a Norwegian-American musician and television presenter. He is best known as the bassist (temporarily drummer) and chief songwriter of the rock band Turbonegro. Early life Seltzer was born to an American father and a Norwegian mother in Hamar, Norway. He grew up in Superior, Wisconsin, and relocated to Nesodden in Akershus, Norway, in 1975. Although he was born in Norway and has lived in Norway since his early childhood, Seltzer retains his US citizenship and has never been a citizen of Norway ''de jure''. Seltzer applied for Norwegian citizenship in 2016, but was rejected due to Norwegian laws prohibiting multiple citizenships. Sympathy for the Record Industry (also known as Sympathy Records or Sympathy 4 the R.I.) is a mainly independent garage rock and punk label formed in 1988 by John Mermis, known as Long Gone John. Notable artists who started on Sympathy and went on to gain mainstream success include The White Stripes, Hole, and The Electrocutes (the first Donnas incarnation). Euroboys
Kåre and the Cavemen, formerly known as Euroboys, is a Norwegian band formed in Harestua in 1990. The band changed their name to Euroboys in 1997 for releases outside of Norway and in 2000 for all releases including inside Norway. The band went on a hiatus in the late 2000s and reunited as Kåre and the Cavemen in 2014. History Beginnings Kåre and the Cavemen originally came from a smalltown north of Oslo called Harestua, and started out as a Beastie Boys inspired hip hop/punk band with founding members Kåre João Erik Pedersen (bass, vocals), Knut Schreiner (guitar) and Werner Holm (drums). They soon concentrated on punk rock, as Dag Gravem relieved Pedersen of his bass duties. Doctor Midnight & The Mercy Cult (DMTMC) was a Scandinavian heavy metal supergroup formed in 2009. The band consisted of former-Turbonegro vocalist Hank von Helvete, former-Marilyn Manson and KMFDM multi-instrumentalist Tim Sköld, guitarists Anders Odden of Cadaver and Satyricon, and Audun Stengel of Apoptygma Berzerk and The Kovenant, and former-Extol drummer David Husvik. The band released their only album, '' I Declare: Treason'' in 2011 through Season of Mist and disbanded later that year. History Doctor Midnight & The Mercy Cult was formed in 2009 and recorded their debut album in Oslo, Stockholm and Los Angeles. Man's Ruin Records was an independent record label owned and founded by San Francisco Bay Area artist Frank Kozik. In total, the record label released over 200 singles and albums, with most of the artwork designed by Kozik. After the 1995 release of Man's Ruin's first record, ''Experimental Audio Research (EAR): Delta 6'', Kozik worked with artists whom he wanted to release. He also designed all of the sleeve-art for the releases. Glam Punk
Glam punk is a music genre that began in the early to mid-1970s and incorporates elements of proto-punk and glam rock. The genre was pioneered by the New York Dolls, who influenced the formation of other New York City groups the Stilettos, the Brats and Ruby and the Rednecks and bands in the United Kingdom including Hollywood Brats and Jet. Burning Heart Records
Burning Heart Records is an independent record label formed in 1993 in Fagersta, Sweden, and currently based in Örebro. It has a close affiliation with Californian label Epitaph Records, who own the rights to distribute Burning Heart's output in North America.
