This is a list of piston engines developed, independently or with other car companies, by Toyota Motor Corporation. Engine codes Toyota has produced a wide variety of automobile engines, including three-cylinder, four-cylinder, V6 and V8 engines. The company follows a naming system for their engines: # The first numeric characters specify the engine block's model (usually differed by displacement) # The next one or two letters specify the engine family # The suffix (separated by a dash) specifies the features of the engine: Other manufacturers may modify the engine after it has left the Toyota factory but the engine still keeps the original Toyota designation. For example, Lotus added a supercharger to the 2ZZ-GE in some versions of the Lotus Elise and Exige, but the engine is still labelled 2ZZ-GE, not 2ZZ-GZE. An internal combustion engine (ICE or IC engine) is a heat engine in which the combustion of a fuel occurs with an oxidizer (usually air) in a combustion chamber that is an integral part of the working fluid flow circuit. Gasoline Direct Injection
Gasoline direct injection (GDI), also known as petrol direct injection (PDI), is a fuel injection system for internal combustion engines that run on gasoline (petrol) which injects fuel directly into the combustion chamber. This is distinct from manifold injection systems, which inject fuel into the intake manifold (inlet manifold) where it mixes with the incoming airstream before reaching the combustion chamber.. The use of GDI can help increase engine efficiency and specific power output as well as reduce exhaust emissions. The first GDI engine to reach production was introduced in 1925 for a low-compression truck engine. Toyota AR Engine
The AR engine family is an Inline-4 piston engine series by Toyota, first introduced in 2008 for the RAV4, and subsequently for the Highlander, Venza, Camry and Scion tC. The AR series uses a die-cast aluminium engine block and aluminium DOHC cylinder head. Toyota GR Engine
The Toyota GR engine family is a petrol engine, gasoline, open-deck, piston engine, piston V6 engine series. The GR series has a 60° Die casting, die-cast aluminium cylinder block, block and aluminium DOHC cylinder heads. Toyota MZ Engine
The Toyota MZ engine family is a piston engine, piston V6 engine series. It was Toyota's second V6 engine after the Toyota VZ engine, VZ engine family, of which the MZ series succeeded it. The MZ family is a lightweight V6 engine of an all-aluminium design, using lightweight parts than the previous heavy-duty VZ block engines in an effort to lower production costs and decrease engine and reciprocating weight without sacrificing reliability. Toyota sought to enhance the drivability pattern of the engine (over the Toyota VZ engine#3VZ-FE, 3VZ-FE) at exactly 3000 rpm, since that was the typical engine speed for motors cruising on the highway. Lotus Elise
The Lotus Elise is a sports car conceived in early 1994 and released in September 1996 by the British manufacturer Lotus Cars. In an internal combustion engine, a supercharger compresses the intake gas, forcing more air into the engine in order to produce more power for a given displacement. It is a form of forced induction that is mechanically powered (usually by a belt from the engine's crankshaft), as opposed to a turbocharger, which is powered by the kinetic energy of the exhaust gases. However, up until the mid-20th century, a turbocharger was called a "turbosupercharger" and was considered a type of supercharger.
