Toyah Willcox
Toyah Ann Willcox (born 18 May 1958) is an English singer-songwriter, actress, and television presenter. In a career spanning more than 40 years, she has had eight top 40 singles, released over 20 albums, written two books, appeared in over 40 stage plays and 10 feature films, and voiced and presented numerous television shows. Between 1977 and 1983, Willcox fronted the eponymous band Toyah (band), Toyah, before embarking on a solo career in the mid-1980s. At the Brit Awards 1982, Willcox was nominated for Brit Award for Best New Artist, British Breakthrough Act, and Brit Award for British Female Solo Artist, Best Female Solo Artist. She was nominated a further two times in this category in 1983, and in 1984. Her hit singles, which she co-wrote, include "It's a Mystery (Toyah song), It's a Mystery", "Thunder in the Mountains" and "I Want to Be Free (Toyah song), I Want to Be Free". Toyah (band)
Toyah was an English new wave music, new wave band fronted by namesake Toyah Willcox between 1977 and 1983. The only other consistent band member throughout this period was Joel Bogen, Willcox's principal co-writer and guitarist. Background Back in the Royal National Theatre, National Theatre, when she was 18, Toyah Willcox felt that was the right environment for her to work out how to put a band together: the theatre was full of musicians as well as actors. "Through a series of coincidences I just got involved in a punk band and that was purely from asking around y’know 'Has anybody got a band, does anyone need a singer?'" she remembered. First Toyah ended up in a punk band from Golders Green, which used to rehearse at Golders Green cemetery and even did a few gigs there. Toyah, Texas
Toyah is a town in Reeves County, Texas, United States. The population was 61 at the 2020 census. History On October 25, 1906 a black man in Toyah named J.I. "Slab" Pitts was dragged to death and then hanged for living with his white wife, Eva Ruff. In September 1928, Amelia Earhart made an unscheduled five-day stop to adjust her carburetor. She relates in her journal that she landed in a small town near Pecos, Texas, but according to a regional book, ''The Toyah Taproots'', several local, unnamed youngsters were seen in pictures around her airplane were later identified as being from Toyah. Much of the town was destroyed by a tornado in 2004. Several abandoned homes, a deserted volunteer fire department and forgotten cars sit on the empty streets. Toyah High School also remains. Toyah Battersby
Toyah Battersby (also Habeeb) is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'', played by Georgia Taylor. Toyah and her family were introduced to the serial by executive producer Brian Park in a bid to increase falling ratings. Actress and singer Toyah Willcox gave the producers permission to name the youngest member of the Battersby family after herself, since the character was said to be born during the height of her career. Taylor originally auditioned for the part of Zoe Tattersall, but was cast as Toyah instead. The role marked her acting debut. She made her first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 4 July 1997. Toyah was portrayed as cocky, naive, too trusting and occasionally needing to be "a bit more clued up" about things.
