Town Of Bassendean
The Town of Bassendean is a local government area in the northeastern suburbs of the Western Australian capital city of Perth, west of the industrial centre of Midland and about northeast of Perth's central business district. The Town covers an area of , maintains 97 km of roads and had a population of approximately 15,000 as at the 2016 Census. The Town of Bassendean is a member of the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council. History The West Guildford Road District was created on 10 May 1901. It was renamed the Bassendean Road District on 7 July 1922, and on 1 July 1961, became the Shire of Bassendean following the enactment of the ''Local Government Act 1960'', which reformed all remaining road districts into shires. It assumed its current name when it gained town status on 1 July 1975. Bassendean (once referred to as West Guildford) is a north-eastern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Its local government area is the Town of Bassendean. It is also the name of the sand dune system on the Swan Coastal Plain known as the ''Bassendean Dune System''. History In 1829, the land along the Swan River was allotted to British settlers as they arrived in the newly created Swan River Colony. James Henty and his brothers were granted 2,000 acres upon which they grazed their livestock and built a mud-brick homestead. They called their property ''Stoke Farm''. In 1832, the Henty brothers sold the farm to the Colonial Secretary, Peter Broun who renamed the homestead ''Bassendean''. Over the years the Bassendean property became incorporated into the suburb of West Guildford and in 1922, West Guildford was renamed Bassendean. The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The Bassendean Fire Station, at 10-14 Parker Street, Bassendean, Western Australia, is a historic fire station. Eden Hill, Western Australia
Eden Hill is an eastern suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the Town of Bassendean. The origin of its name is unknown, either coming from a farm in the area or an estate name used by Henry Brockman when he subdivided the area in 1892. It was approved as a suburb in 1954. Ashfield, Western Australia
Ashfield is a residential suburb of Perth, Western Australia in the Town of Bassendean. The suburb is located along the Swan River. The Midland line passes through the suburb and it is serviced by the Ashfield railway station. It is home to Ashfield Reserve, which also contains Ashfield Arena. It also contains Ashfield Flats, the largest river flat remaining in the Perth metropolitan area. The housing was originally established as a small collection of railway houses near the train line. In the late 1950s early 1960s the area experienced a small boom of housing (400 houses) mostly built by the then State Housing Commission partly funded by the sale of half the properties to individuals.
