Tottenham (, , , ) is a district in north London, England, within the London Borough of Haringey. It is located in the Ceremonial counties of England, ceremonial county of Greater London. Tottenham is centred north-northeast of Charing Cross, bordering Edmonton, London, Edmonton to the north, Walthamstow, across the River Lea, to the east, and Stamford Hill to the south, with Wood Green and Harringay to the west. The area rapidly expanded in the late 19th century, becoming a Working class, working-class suburb of London following the advent of the railway and mass development of housing for the Lower middle class, lower-middle and working classes. It has been home to the Premier League football club Tottenham Hotspur F.C., Tottenham Hotspur since 1882. Wood Green
Wood Green is a suburban district of the London Borough of Haringey, London, England. Its postal district is N22, with parts in N8 or N15. The London Plan identifies it as one of the metropolitan centres in Greater London, and today it forms a major commercial district of north London. Formerly lying within the western part of Municipal Borough of Tottenham, Tottenham and the county of Middlesex, it became part of both Haringey and Greater London in 1965. Wood Green lies directly east of Alexandra Palace. It is from Charing Cross in central London. Municipal Borough Of Tottenham
Tottenham () was a local government district in north east Middlesex from 1850 to 1965. It was part of the London postal district and Metropolitan Police District. History In 1850 a local board of health was established for the civil parish of Tottenham and in 1875 the local board became an urban sanitary authority, without change of name. The ancient parish had included Wood Green and in 1888 the district was divided, with Wood Green gaining its own local board. The sanitary district was reconstituted as an urban district in 1894 under the Local Government Act 1894 and Wood Green was removed from the parish. In 1934 the urban district was incorporated as a municipal borough. In 1965, the municipal borough was abolished and its former area transferred to Greater London under the London Government Act 1963 to be combined with that of other districts to form the present-day London Borough of Haringey. River Lea
The River Lea ( ) is in the East of England and Greater London. It originates in Bedfordshire, in the Chiltern Hills, and flows southeast through Hertfordshire, along the Essex border and into Greater London, to meet the River Thames at Bow Creek (England), Bow Creek. It is one of the largest rivers in London and the easternmost major tributary of the Thames. The river's significance as a major east–west barrier and boundary has tended to obscure its importance as north–south trade route. Below Hertford the river has since medieval times had alterations made to make it more navigable for boats between the Thames and eastern Hertfordshire and Essex, known as the Lee Navigation. Harringay
Harringay (pronounced ) is a district of north London, England, within the London Borough of Haringey. It is centred on the section of Green Lanes running between the New River, where it crosses Green Lanes by Finsbury Park, and Duckett's Common, near Turnpike Lane. Location The boundaries of Harringay form a rough boot shape in the extreme southern centre of the borough of Haringey. The western boundary of Harringay is formed by the East Coast Main Line. The northern boundary is to the south of Turnpike Lane, running parallel to it, somewhere between Sydney Road and Fairfax Road. In the northeast, the boundary roughly corresponds with a line drawn between the south of Duckett's Common and the north end of Warwick Gardens. Walthamstow ( or ) is a town within the London Borough of Waltham Forest in east London. Stamford Hill
Stamford Hill is an area in Inner London, England, about northeast of Charing Cross. The neighbourhood is a major component of the London Borough of Hackney, and is known for its Hasidic community, the largest concentration of orthodox Ashkenazi in Europe. The district takes its name from the eponymous hill, which reaches a height of AOD, and the originally Roman A10 also takes the name "Stamford Hill", as it makes its way through the area. The hill is believed to be named after the ford where the A10 crossed the Hackney Brook on the southern edge of the hill. Wood Green was a local government district in south east Middlesex from 1888 to 1965. History Until 1888, Wood Green was part of Tottenham, and was included in the district of the Municipal Borough of Tottenham, Tottenham Local Board in 1850.
