Torhout
Torhout (; ; ) is a City status in Belgium, city and Municipalities of Belgium, municipality located in the Belgium, Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the city of Torhout proper, the villages of Wijnendale and Sint-Henricus, and the hamlet of De Driekoningen. On 29 February 2024 Torhout had a total population of 24,891. The total area is 45.23 km2 which gives a population density of 445 inhabitants per km2. Koninklijke Maatschappij Torhout is a Belgian football club currently playing in the Belgian Division 2. The club is based in Torhout, West Flanders and plays their home meets in stadium "De Velodroom". KM Torhout was founded by a merger of two associations, namely the KVK Torhout and KSK Torhout. Club history * 1920: Founding of FC (Football Club) Torhout, later KFC (Koninklijke Football Club) Torhout and ultimately KVK (Koninklijke Voetbal Klub) Torhout. Became member of the Koninlijke Belgische Voetbal Bond (KBVB)(Royal Belgium Football Association) * 1926: Founding of SK (Sportkring) Torhout, later KSK (Konionklijke Sportkring) Torhout. Rock Werchter
Rock Werchter is an annual music festival held in the village of Werchter, near Leuven, Belgium, since 1976 and is a large sized rock music festival. The 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2012 and 2014 festivals received the Arthur award for ''best festival in the world'' at the International Live Music Conference (ILMC). It can host 88,000 guests daily, of which 67,500 combine all four days, to add up to a total maximum of 149,500 different attendees. The festival started in 1974 as a one-day event with performances from Banzai and Kandahar, but over the years it has evolved to become one of Belgium's largest music festivals. Originally it was a double-festival, called "Torhout-Werchter", with two festival areas at different sites in Belgium: one in Werchter and one in Torhout. In 1999, the festival dropped the Torhout site and since then has taken place only in Werchter. International Holocaust Cartoon Competition
International Holocaust Cartoon Contest was a 2006 cartoon competition, sponsored by the Iranian newspaper ''Hamshahri'', to denounce what it called Western "double standards on freedom of speech". The event was staged in response to the ''Jyllands-Posten'' Muhammad cartoons controversy. The United States State Department, the Israeli Foreign Ministry and United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, among others, strongly criticized the contest. In January 2015, in the wake of the ''Charlie Hebdo'' shooting and the magazine's subsequent decision to publish further cartoons of Muhammad, the Iranian House of Cartoon and the Sarcheshmeh Cultural Complex in Iran announced that they would be sponsoring The 2nd International Holocaust Cartoons Contest.
