Tokyo DisneySea
is a theme park at the Tokyo Disney Resort located in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, just next to Tokyo. It opened on 4 September 2001, at a cost of 335 billion yen. The Oriental Land Company owns the park, and licenses intellectual property from The Walt Disney Company. In 2023, Tokyo DisneySea hosted 12.4 million visitors, making it the seventh-most visited theme park in the world and the third-most visited in Japan. History Plans for a second Disney park in Tokyo were first conceived in 1987, the same period when the "Law for the Development of Comprehensive Resort Areas" was passed. Initially, these plans included a park similar to Disney's Hollywood Studios (then Disney-MGM Studios), to be called Disney Hollywood Studio Theme Park at Tokyo Disneyland. This idea was later reconsidered in 1991 because of the economic collapse caused by Japanese asset price bubble. Mediterranean Harbor (Tokyo DisneySea)
Mediterranean Harbor is a themed area in Tokyo DisneySea, the second park in the Tokyo Disney Resort, located in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, Chiba, Japan, near Tokyo, which opened in 2001. Mediterranean Harbor is the entrance "port-of-call," or hub, themed as an Italian port city named "Porto Paradiso", complete with Venetian gondolas that guests can ride. The majority of places of interest throughout the port are various shops and restaurants. The (local nickname ''TDR'') is a theme park and vacation resort located in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan, just east of Tokyo. The resort is owned and operated by the Oriental Land Company, the Oriental Land Co., a subsidiary of the Keisei Electric Railway, under a license from The Walt Disney Company, which designed and constructed the resort and its various attractions through its Walt Disney Imagineering, Imagineering research & development arm. Aquatopia
Aquatopia is an attraction at Tokyo DisneySea theme park at the Tokyo Disney Resort in Chiba, Japan. Located in the Port Discovery area of the park, it is the second attraction to use a trackless ride system designed by Walt Disney Imagineering (the first being Pooh's Hunny Hunt at neighboring park Tokyo Disneyland). Port Discovery is a "port-of-call" (themed land) at Tokyo DisneySea in the Tokyo Disney Resort. It represents a "marina of the future". On April 28, 2025, the Oriental Land Company announced that Aquatopia will be closing and replaced with new attractions and more in the section of Port Discovery at Tokyo DisneySea. Raging Spirits (レイジングスピリッツ) is a roller coaster attraction located in Tokyo DisneySea. The attraction began operation on July 21, 2005. Mermaid Lagoon is a "port-of-call" (themed land) at Tokyo DisneySea in the Tokyo Disney Resort, and is themed to Disney's '' The Little Mermaid'' franchise. Mysterious Island is a "port-of-call" (themed land) at Tokyo DisneySea in the Tokyo Disney Resort. It features a large volcano and is located in the center of the park. Theming Mysterious Island is a recreation of the fictitious one in Jules Verne's 1875 novel, ''The Mysterious Island'', which serves as Captain Nemo's lair. It is also known as Vulcania Island, as featured in the 1954 Disney movie ''20,000 Leagues Under the Sea''. The , also known as Oriental Land is a Japanese leisure and tourism company headquartered in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan where it also owns and operates the Tokyo Disney Resort. The company operates in three segments, divided as theme parks, hotels, and other business. It is a component of the TOPIX Large70 index. OLC's largest shareholder is the Keisei Electric Railway which controls 22% of the company's shares.
