The New Seekers
The New Seekers were a British pop group, formed in London, in 1969, by Keith Potger, after the break-up of his group, the Seekers. The idea was that the New Seekers would appeal to the same market as the original Seekers, but their music would have pop as well as folk influences. They achieved worldwide success in the early 1970s with hits including " I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", " You Won't Find Another Fool Like Me" and " Beg, Steal or Borrow". Formation The group were formed after the disbanding of the successful 1960s Australian group the Seekers. Keith Potger, a member of the Seekers, put together the New Seekers in 1969, featuring Laurie Heath, Chris Barrington, Marty Kristian, Eve Graham and Sally Graham (no relation), the latter of whom was a member of The Young Generation. Victoria Horn
Victoria Jane Horn (also known as Lady V) is an English Grammy Award winning songwriter and ASCAP and BMI heavy rotation award winner. Personal life Victoria Horn began studying the piano at age three and later learned the guitar. At an early age she showed promise in the areas of both fashion design and music (winning a young designer award at age 16.) She is also an accomplished show jumper with a long familial tradition in the sport. She is often referred to by her writer/feature artist name "Lady V." ''Top of the Pops'' (''TOTP'') is a British record chart television programme, made by the BBC and broadcast weekly between 1January 1964 and 30 July 2006. The programme was the world's longest-running weekly music show. For most of its history, it was broadcast on Thursday evenings on BBC One. Each show consisted of performances of some of the week's best-selling popular music records, usually excluding any tracks moving down the chart, including a rundown of that week's singles chart. This was originally the Top 20, though this varied throughout the show's history. The Top 30 was used from 1969 and the Top 40 from 1984. Delaney & Bonnie was an American duo of singer-songwriters Delaney Bramlett and Bonnie Bramlett. In 1969 and 1970, they fronted a rock/soul ensemble, Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, whose members at different times included Duane Allman, Gregg Allman, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Leon Russell, Bobby Whitlock, Dave Mason, Steve Howe, Rita Coolidge, and King Curtis. Background Delaney Bramlett (July 1, 1939, Pontotoc County, Mississippi – December 27, 2008, Los Angeles) learned the guitar in his youth. "Never Ending Song of Love" is a song written by Delaney Bramlett, and, according to some sources, by his wife Bonnie Bramlett. It was originally recorded with their band, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, in 1971 on the album '' Motel Shot''. Released as a single by Atco Records the same year, "Never Ending Song of Love" became Delaney & Bonnie's greatest hit on the pop charts, reaching a peak of No. 13 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and No. 8 on Easy Listening. It reached No. 16 in Australia. A cover version by the New Seekers was a major hit in the United Kingdom and Ireland in 1971. Melanie Anne Safka Schekeryk (February 3, 1947 – January 23, 2024), professionally known as Melanie or Melanie Safka, was an American singer-songwriter. Melanie is widely known for the 1971–72 global hit " Brand New Key", her 1970 version of the Rolling Stones' " Ruby Tuesday", her composition " What Have They Done to My Song Ma", and her 1970 international breakthrough hit " Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)", which was inspired by her experience of performing at the 1969 Woodstock music festival. STV (TV Channel)
STV is a free-to-air public broadcast television channel owned and operated by the STV Group. It is made up of the Central Scotland and Northern Scotland ITV public broadcaster licences, formerly known as Scottish Television (now legally STV Central Ltd) and Grampian Television (now legally STV North Ltd) respectively. The STV brand refers to the on-air name used by Scottish Television for much of its history - notably in the 1970s and early 1980s. Dougie Squires
Douglas William Squires (16 February 1932 – 21 May 2023) was an English choreographer, known best for his work in television from the mid-1950s. He was born in Nottingham. Squires died on 21 May 2023, at the age of 91. "Beg, Steal or Borrow" was the entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1972, performed in English by The New Seekers. The song was composed and written by Tony Cole, Steve Wolfe and Graeme Hall. It is a love song to a former lover claiming the two should be together and the singer will "beg, steal or borrow" in order to "bring" the other love.
