A season is a division of the year based on changes in weather, ecology, and the number of daylight hours in a given region. On Earth, seasons are the result of the axial parallelism of Earth's axial tilt, tilted orbit around the Sun. In temperate and polar regions, the seasons are marked by changes in the intensity of sunlight that reaches the Earth's surface, variations of which may cause animals to undergo hibernation or to Migration (ecology), migrate, and plants to be dormant. Various cultures define the number and nature of seasons based on regional variations, and as such there are a number of both modern and historical definitions of the seasons. ''Seasons of the Year'' (; ), also called ''The Seasons'' or ''Four Seasons'', is a 1975 Soviet–Armenian short documentary film, directed and written by Artavazd Peleshyan. It was his second and last collaboration with cinematographer Mikhail Vartanov, after '' Autumn Pastoral'' (1971). Production ''Seasons of the Year'' was filmed by Mikhail Vartanov in black-and-white on 35 mm film in the Armenian SSR. It was Peleshyan's first film not using archive footage. Synopsis The film depicts the struggles of an isolated Armenian farming community against the elements. Armenian folk music is mixed with Vivaldi's ''Four Seasons''. We see the villagers raising sheep and cattle, rolling haystacks down a hillside, dealing with rain and storms, celebrating a wedding, and sliding down a snowy hill while carrying sheep. The Four Seasons Restaurant (known colloquially as the Four Seasons) was a New American cuisine restaurant in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City from 1959 to 2019.
