Thanda Royal Zulu was a South African association football, football club based in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. History The club started after a Swedish consortium that included Sven-Goran Eriksson bought the franchise from Benoni Premier United at the end of the 2006–07 season. The new owners moved the franchise from Benoni, Gauteng, Benoni to KwaZulu-Natal. They played their home games at Richards Bay Stadium in Richards Bay having previously played their home games at the Hammarsdale Stadium in Hammarsdale. In 2010 the club moved its headquarters from Durban to Richards Bay. The club's nickname ''Amabhubesi'' was Zulu language, Zulu for ''Lions'' while ''Thanda'' means ''love''. Richards Bay Stadium
Richards Bay Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is part of the uMhlathuze Sports Complex and used mostly for football (soccer), football matches, and is currently the home venue for South African Premier Division, Premier Division club Richards Bay F.C. In September 2021, a Premier Soccer League disciplinary committee banned Richards Bay F.C. from using the ground for a period of two years. Stadium issues had been ongoing, with water dripping through into the players' changing rooms, broken ceiling panels, broken toilets, unserviced fire extinguishers and power cables running through water on the floor in the main stand. The ban could be lifted earlier if requirements were met. 2009–10 National First Division
2009–10 National First Division, was the season from August 2009 until February 2010, of South Africa's second tier of professional football. By the end of the season, the Coastal stream champion Vasco da Gama met to play the overall championship final, against the Inland stream champion Black Leopards. Vasco da Gama won the final, and thereby got promoted to Premier Soccer League. The subsequent playoff stage, was contested by the losing finalist, two second ranked teams of the NFD streams, and the second lowest ranked team of PSL. Winner of the playoff stage, and thereby the second promotion to PSL, was the team Mpumalanga Black Aces. Season structure The league is made up of 16 teams, split into 2 streams. Each team plays the other 7 teams in their stream 3 times, for a total of 21 games. Teams receive 3 points for a win, 1 for draw, and 0 for a loss. 2013–14 National First Division
The 2013–14 National First Division was played from September 2013 until May 2014, and is the second tier of South Africa's professional football. Chippa United won the league, earning promotion to the 2014–15 Premiership. Black Leopards and Milano United finished second and third, thus qualifying for the promotion/relegation play-offs against Polokwane City, which had finished 15th in the Premiership. Polokwane City won the play-off, retaining the Premiership place. Roses United and Blackburn Rovers were relegated to the ABC Motsepe League following their 15th and 16th-place finishes.
