Television In Bangladesh
Television is one of the most popular forms of media and information in Bangladesh. It was one of the first countries in South Asia to introduce television on 25 December 1964, in ''the then'' East Pakistan under the state-owned television network Pakistan Television Corporation in its capital, Dhaka. After the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, the Dhaka television station of PTV was renamed to Bangladesh Television, which had a monopoly on the country's television industry until 1997, with the launch of ATN Bangla on satellite television. Since then, the number of privately owned television channels saw a tremendous rise in the Bangladeshi television market. As of 2019, 64% of households in Bangladesh had a television set, with cable television dominating the pay television market there. Samakal
''Samakal'' () is a Bengali-language daily newspaper published in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The paper is owned by Ha-Meem Group. It began publication in 2005. Golam Sarwar was the editor of the paper from its launch until his death in 2018. In 2020, Samakal had a circulation of 270,000, which made it the eighth most widely read newspaper in the country. Over the years, the paper's writers have included Ajoy Dasgupta, Abed Khan, Mizanur Rahman Khan, and Khalil Rahman. Gautam Das, the paper's Faridpur bureau chief, was murdered in November 2005 by junior Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) politicians after reporting on corruption in the party. Simon Dring
Simon John Dring (11 January 1945 – 16 July 2021) was a British foreign correspondent, television producer, and presenter. He worked for Reuters, ''The Daily Telegraph'' of London, and BBC Television, Radio News, and Current Affairs, covering, over 30 years, major stories and events, including 69 wars and revolutions, around the world. He had a wide range of experience in many areas of television broadcasting developments and management's, designing and producing global television events. Early life and education Dring grew up in Fakenham, Norfolk, England, United Kingdom. He was expelled from boarding school in Woodbridge for midnight swimming in the River Deben. Channel I
Channel i () is a Bangladeshi Bengali-language satellite and cable television channel owned by Impress Group. It was launched on 1 October 1999, as Bangladesh's first digital television channel. It is one of the oldest satellite television channels in Bangladesh. Channel i is broadcast via satellite television using PanAmSat and Bangabandhu-1, covering most of Asia and parts of Australia. It is sister to the radio station, Radio Bhumi. Doordarshan (), abbreviated as DD, is India's State-owned enterprise, state-owned public broadcasting, public television broadcaster. The ''Daily Naya Diganta'' () is a Bengali daily newspaper published in Bangladesh since 2004. History It is part of Diganta Media Corporation, which was owned by Mir Quasem Ali, politician of the Jamaat-e-Islami. The television channel, Diganta TV, is a sister concern of the newspaper. The television was launched in August 2008. Alamgir Mohiuddin is the editor of Naya Diganta. Ziaur Rahman
Ziaur Rahman (19 January 193630 May 1981) was a Bangladeshi military officer and politician who served as the sixth president of Bangladesh from 1977 until Assassination of Ziaur Rahman, his assassination in 1981. One of the leading figures of the Bangladesh Liberation War, country's independence war, Ziaur has been nicknamed as the "Liberation Announcer" for broadcasting the Proclamation of Bangladeshi Independence, Bangladeshi declaration of independence in March 1971 from Chittagong. Rampura Thana (Bengali: রামপুরা থানা) is a police administrative area (thana) of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It encloses parts of Banasree residential area and Dhaka North City Corporation wards 22 and 23.
