Tainan (), officially Tainan City, is a Special municipality (Taiwan), special municipality in southern Taiwan, facing the Taiwan Strait on its western coast. Tainan is the oldest city on the island and commonly called the "Taiwan Prefecture, prefectural capital" for its over 260-year history as the capital of Taiwan under Dutch Formosa, Dutch rule, the Kingdom of Tungning and later Taiwan under Qing rule, Qing dynasty rule until 1887. Tainan's complex history of comebacks, redefinitions and renewals inspired its popular nickname "the Phoenix City". Tainan is classified as a "Sufficiency"-level global city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network. District (Taiwan)
Districts are administrative subdivisions of Taiwan's Special municipality (Taiwan), special municipalities of the second level and Provincial city (Taiwan), provincial cities of the third level formerly under its provinces. There are two types of district in the administrative scheme: Ordinary districts are governed directly by the municipality/city government, with district administrators appointed by mayors to four-year terms. The mountain indigenous district is a local government body with elected district chiefs as well as district council serving four-year terms. THSR Tainan Station
Tainan () is a railway station in Tainan, Taiwan served by Taiwan High Speed Rail, and is connected to station for TRA services. It is near the border between Kaohsiung City and Tainan City. Xinying District
Xinying District () or Sinying District is a district and the location of the second administrative center of the Tainan City Government in Taiwan. Sugar production was the most important industry in Xinying. History On 7 January 1946, Tainan County was established and Xinying Township was made its county capital. On 25 December 1981, Xinying was upgraded from an urban township to a county-administered city. Tainan County
Tainan County was a County (Taiwan), county in southern Taiwan between 1945 and 2010. The county seat was in Xinying District, Sinying City. History Tainan County was established on 7 January 1946 on the territory of Tainan Prefecture () shortly after the end of World War II. In the early years, Tainan County consists of most territory of Tainan Prefecture except the territory near cities of Tainan and Kagi (Chiayi). Cigu District
Cigu District, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency or Chiku is a rural district in the city of Tainan with about 21,441 inhabitants, situated on the westernmost point of the island of Taiwan. The Cigu Lagoon is located in this township, and an ecological conservation area for black-faced spoonbills is situated on the estuary of the Zengwen River. It was a salt producing area, but now most of the salt products are imported from other counties. History Around 360 years ago, seven settlers arrived in the area from China and built a fish farm.
