Taibach RFC Players
Taibach, also spelled as , is a community (Wales), community and suburban district of Port Talbot, Wales. It is a settlement centered on the main A48 road, sandwiched between the Nant Ffrwdwyllt, river Ffrwdwyllt and Margam. Parts of Margam are within the community boundaries. History The "little houses" of Taibach sprang up at the beginning of the 19th century in the parish of Margam as homes for colliery and other industrial workers, some way away from the historic village centre of Margam. With the expansion of industrial activity in the parish, and, in particular, the foundation of the new port at Port Talbot, the whole area became a single conurbation, as it remains, and Taibach was subsumed within it. Amenities The stretch of the A48 road through the area is the main shopping street and is named Commercial Road in the area. Neath Port Talbot () is a Principal areas of Wales, county borough in the South West Wales, south-west of Wales. Its principal towns are Neath, Port Talbot, Briton Ferry and Pontardawe. The county borough borders Bridgend County Borough and Rhondda Cynon Taf to the east, Powys and Carmarthenshire to the north; and Swansea to the west. Goytre
Goytre () is a village near the town of Port Talbot, Wales. The village lies in the valley of the Nant Ffrwdwyllt, between the communities of Taibach, Cwmafan, Bryn and Margam. The former St Peter's Church (Church in Wales) was a 'tin tabernacle' opened in 1915. Situated on East Street and Goytre Road, the church closed in late 2017 and the building was offered for sale in 2019. A community () is a division of land that forms the lowest tier of local government in Wales. Welsh communities are analogous to civil parishes in England but, unlike English parishes, communities cover the whole of Wales. Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council (or simply Neath Port Talbot Council) is the local authority for the county borough of Neath Port Talbot, one of the 22 Principal areas of Wales, principal areas of Wales. The council was controlled by the Labour Party (UK), Labour Party from its creation in 1996 until 2022, when Plaid Cymru and a group of independent councillors agreed to share power. Margam Moors
Margam Moors () is a community (Wales), community of Neath Port Talbot county borough, Wales. Together with the community of Margam, it forms the Margam electoral ward. Part of Margam Moors is listed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, due to the marshy grassland and ditches that are home to a variety of different plants and insects. There were three inhabitants in Margam Moors at the 2001 census, and most of the area is open moorland with the central and northern areas occupied by Port Talbot Steelworks and Port Talbot Docks. Margam And Tai-bach
Margam and Tai-bach is an electoral ward in Neath Port Talbot, Wales. It includes the communities of Margam, Margam Moors and Taibach. It elects three councillors to Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council. The ward was created following the recommendations of a local government boundary review, with the merger of the former Margam and Tai-bach wards. According to the 2011 UK Census, the population of the Margam ward was 5,927 and in the Tai-bach ward it was 4,799. 2022 local election Tai-bach has previously been represented by two Labour Party councillors, but neither stood for election in 2022. Rob Jones, Labour councillor for Margam stood again at this election, as did Dennis Keogh, former councillor for the nearby Port Talbot ward. Jones was also the former leader of the council. The 2022 election to Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council was held on 5 May 2022 as part of wider local elections across Wales. The election was preceded by the 2017 election. Llewellyn Heycock, Baron Heycock
Llewellyn Heycock, Baron Heycock CBE (12 August 1905 – 13 March 1990) was a Welsh local politician, who became a life peer in 1967. Heycock was born in Margam and began his career as an engine driver with the Great Western Railway. He subsequently rose to a powerful position in South Wales local politics through his trade union connections and membership of the Labour Party, a "personality of transcendent authority". Despite having himself received little formal education, he became Chairman of the Glamorganshire Education Committee. He was first elected to Glamorgan County Council in 1937 at a by-election following the re-election of long-serving miners' agent John Thomas of Pontrhydyfen as an alderman. Heycock was chosen as Labour candidate at the expense of Joe Brown, a former mayor of Port Talbot and a close associate of Ramsay Macdonald when he was MP for Aberavon. Richard Burton
Richard Burton (; born Richard Walter Jenkins Jr.; 10 November 1925 – 5 August 1984) was a Welsh actor. Noted for his mellifluous baritone voice, Burton established himself as a formidable Shakespearean actor in the 1950s and gave a memorable performance as Richard Burton's Hamlet, Hamlet in 1964. He was called "the natural successor to Laurence Olivier, Olivier" by critic Kenneth Tynan. Burton's perceived failure to live up to those expectations disappointed some critics and colleagues; his heavy drinking added to his reputation as a great performer who had wasted his talent.
