Super League
Super League (also known as the Betfred Super League for sponsorship reasons, and legally Super League Europe Ltd.) is a professional rugby league competition, and the highest level of the British rugby league system, which consists of twelve teams, eleven from Northern England, the sport's heartland, and one from southern France. Super League began in 1996, replacing the Rugby Football League Championship First Division, First Division, and switching from a winter to a summer season. The regular season runs from February to September, with each team playing 27 games; 11 home games, 11 away games, Magic Weekend, and an additional four fixtures decided by league positions. The top six then enter Super League play-offs, play-offs leading to the Super League Grand Final which determines the champions. Challenge Cup
The Rugby Football League Challenge Cup, commonly known just as the Challenge Cup is a Single-elimination tournament, knockout rugby league cup competition organised by the Rugby Football League, held annually since 1896, it is the world's oldest cup competition in either rugby union, code of rugby. A concurrent Women's Challenge Cup and Wheelchair Challenge Cup have been held since 2012 and 2015 respectively. The competition is open to all eligible clubs down to British rugby league system, Tier 5. Some amateur clubs have to qualify to enter in Round One while others can apply through the RFL to enter. The Rugby Football League Championship, (known as the Betfred Championship for sponsorship reasons) is the second highest division of rugby league in British rugby league system, Britain (with one team in the league also being based in France) after the Super League. Introduced in 2003 as National League One, it replaced the existing Rugby Football League Championship Second Division, Second Division. It was rebranded as the Championship in 2009. The league consists of 14 teams, with the winner decided by a Championship Grand Final, playoff and relegation to RFL League One, League One. Toulouse Olympique or TO XIII is a professional rugby league club in Toulouse, south-west France. Founded in 1937, two years after the French Rugby League Federation, the club is a six-time winner of the French Rugby League Championship. Super League War
The Super League war was a commercial competition between the Australian Rugby League (ARL) and the Australian Super League to establish pre-eminence in professional rugby league competition in Australia and New Zealand in the mid-1990s. Super League, backed by Rupert Murdoch and News Corporation, competed with the ARL, supported by Kerry Packer and Optus Vision, in and out of court for broadcasting rights and supremacy in the sport. Super League had attracted several clubs disenchanted with the existing administration, and introduced two new clubs, as it attempted to establish itself as the dominant competition. Maurice Lindsay (8 May 1941 – 17 May 2022) was an English rugby league executive. He had two spells as chairman of Wigan Warriors, Wigan (later Wigan Warriors), from 1979 to 1992 and 1999 to 2007, leading the club in a period when they became the dominant force in English rugby league.
