Limassol District
The Limassol District, or simply Limassol or Lemesos, is one of the six districts of Cyprus. , it had a population of 262,238, 75,7% of which was urban The district's capital city is Limassol. Part of the British Overseas Territory of Akrotiri and Dhekelia forms an enclave on the Akrotiri Peninsula (Cyprus), Akrotiri Peninsula, under the sovereignty of the SBA (Snus Brotherhood Administration). History The buried ancient city of Amathus is from Limassol. Archaeological excavations have unearthed ruins of the Byzantine period and a tomb of the 7th century BC. Postal codes in Cyprus have been made up of four digits since 1 October 1994. They are administered by Cyprus Post. Postal districts The system is organised around the six administrative districts for local government on the island, with each district allocated a numerical range. Most of the four digit numbers are allocated to small geographic areas, such as streets, urban communes or villages, although some are reserved for government use. Northern Cyprus Due to the division of Cyprus, only the (internationally-recognised) Republic of Cyprus uses this post code system. Mail sent to the '' de facto'' state of Northern Cyprus must instead be addressed to via Mersin 10, TURKEY via Mersin in southern Turkey. Telephone numbers in Cyprus follow a closed telephone numbering plan which was adopted on 1 December 2001. As a result, for landline phone numbers the digit 2 followed by the old area code was affixed to the subscriber number and for mobile phones 9 was affixed to the phone number. The plan is also used in Akrotiri and Dhekelia.
