Starkville, Colorado
Starkville is a statutory town in Las Animas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 62 at the 2020 census. History The town was named for Albert G. Stark, a coal mine owner. The community was formerly a company-owned coal- mining town owned and operated by the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company. On October 8, 1910, an explosion at the Starkville mine killed 56 miners. Exactly a month later, an explosion at the nearby Victor-American Fuel Company mine in Delagua killed 76. Miners from Starkville aided in the recovery efforts. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. Starkville, Georgia
Starkville, or Starksville, is a ghost town in Lee County, Georgia. The town is named for American Revolution war hero John Stark. History Starkville was founded in 1832 as the county seat of Lee county. By 1837 a courthouse had been erected and by 1840 a jail was built. In 1856 the courthouse burned and the county seat was moved to Webster but returned in 1858. In 1832 Starkville Academy was formed to educate the young people of the town. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Starville as a town in 1839. In 1872 the county seat was moved to Wooten Station (now known as Leesburg) and the population of Starkville dwindled away. In 1916, five African American men who had been taken from a jail in Worth County were lynched by a mob. The town's municipal charter was not officially repealed until 1995. Starkville is the largest city in the Golden Triangle (Mississippi), Golden Triangle, which had a population of 175,474 in 2020, and the principal city of the Starkville–Columbus, MS CSA, Starkville-Columbus, MS CSA. Founded in 1831, the city was originally known as Boardtown for the local sawmilling operation there, but was renamed in 1837 to honor American Revolutionary War general John Stark.
