St John Ambulance
St John Ambulance is an affiliated movement of charitable organisations in mostly Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth countries which provide first aid education and consumables and emergency medical services. St John organisations are primarily staffed by volunteer, volunteer members and funded through their commercial endeavours, government contracts or donations. The associations are supported by the Order of Saint John (chartered 1888), International Secretariat of the Order of St John (based in London) and its national priories. St John Ambulance (England)
St John Ambulance is a charitable non-governmental organisation dedicated to the teaching and practice of first aid and the support of the national emergency response system in England. Along with St John Ambulance Cymru, St John Ambulance Northern Ireland, and St John Scotland, it is one of the four United Kingdom affiliates of the international St John Ambulance movement. The St John Ambulance Association was founded in 1877 to provide first aid training. In 1887, the St John Ambulance Brigade was founded to provide uniformed medics at public events. In 1968, the two were merged into the present foundation. The organisation is a subsidiary of the England and the Islands priory (i.e. branch) of the Order of St John. The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem (), commonly known as the Order of St John, and also known as St John International, is an order of chivalry constituted in 1888 by royal charter from Queen Victoria and dedicated to St John the Baptist. St John Ambulance Cymru (previously known as St John Cymru-Wales, officially known as The Priory for Wales of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem) is a charity (registered in England and Wales) dedicated to the teaching and practice of first aid. It is part of the Order of Saint John and operates as the Welsh branch of St John Ambulance. History The medieval Order of St John is the original inspiration of the modern Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem.
