Sport In Afghanistan
Sport in Afghanistan is managed by the General Directorate of Olympics, Physical Education and Sports, currently headed by Ahmadullah Wasiq. Currently, cricket and association football (soccer) are the most popular sports in Afghanistan. The Afghan Sports Federation has promoted many types of sports, including basketball, bodybuilding, boxing, bowling, cricket, football, golf, mountaineering, paragliding, skating, skiing, snooker, taekwondo, track and field, volleyball, and weightlifting. The traditional sport of Afghanistan has been Buzkashi, which is now occasionally seen in the northern parts of the country. The Afghanistan national cricket team's win over Namibia in Krugersdorp earned them official One Day International status in April 2009. Buzkashi
Buzkashi () is the most favored sport of Afghanistan. It is a traditional sport in which horse-mounted players attempt to place a goat or Calf (animal), calf carcass in a goal. Similar games are known as kokpar, kupkari, and ulak tartysh in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Ali Reza Asahi
Ali Reza Asahi (; 27 March 1974 – 23 January 2025) was an Afghan Hazara bodybuilder, who won a gold medal in the 14th round of the 2023 World Bodybuilding Championships hosted in Seoul, South Korea. Asahi won the gold medal among the representatives of China, Japan, India, and South Korea in the competition with athletes from 40 countries in the weight category of 85 kg and above.
