Space Program Of Spain
The National Institute for Aerospace Technology "Esteban Terradas" ( or ''INTA'') is an List of agencies in Spain, autonomous agency of the Spain, Spanish public administration dependent on the Secretary of State for Defence (Spain), Secretariat of State for Defence (SEDEF). It is responsible for the aerospace, aeronautics, hydrodynamics, and defense and security technologies research. The INTA was established in 1942, as the National Institute of Aeronautical Technology (), and it was integrated in the Ministry of the Air Force (Spain), Ministry of the Air. It has its headquarters in Torrejón de Ardoz, near Madrid. Organization Its budget, €190 million in 2019, comes from the Spanish Ministry of Defence and from its own projects with the industry. In 2001, it had 1153 R&D staff with 325 full-time equivalent researchers. As of 2017, INTA had a total of 1500 employees, 80% of them are dedicated to R&D activities. The Secretary of State for Defence (SEDEF) is the second-highest-ranking official in the Ministry of Defence (Spain), Ministry of Defence of Spain. The SEDEF is a civilian which is appointed by the King of Spain, King with the advice of the Defence Minister. In spite of being the second authority of the Ministry, it is behind the Chief of the Defence Staff (Spain), Chief of the Defence Staff as far as military control is concerned. The duties of the SEDEF are related to management and control of the economic resources, the armament policy and the defence infraestructures. Delta Rocket
The Delta rocket family was a versatile range of American rocket-powered expendable launch systems that provided space launch capability in the United States from 1960 to 2024. Japan also launched license-built derivatives (N-I (rocket), N-I, N-II (rocket), N-II, and H-I) from 1975 to 1992. More than 300 Delta rockets were launched with a 95% success rate. The series was phased out in favor of the Vulcan Centaur, with the Delta IV Heavy, Delta IV Heavy rocket's last launch occurring on April 9, 2024. OPTOS
OPTOS was a Spanish nanosatellite designed and developed by INTA with support from the European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS) as a low-cost technology demonstrator. It was launched in 2013 and had a service life of three years. Mission OPTOS was devised as a testing platform to the national capabilities to produce an operating satellite with a limited developing time and budget (around 1.5 million euros). These requirements intended to grant easy access to space to both the Spanish scientific community and private business. Special attention was put on safety and ground testing prior to launch, consequently the satellite was qualified by both the ECSS, belonging to ESA, and INTA using its purpose-build Mission Simulation Test. Alén Space is a Spanish company in the NewSpace sector, located in Vigo ( Galicia, Spain). Alén Space designs, constructs, and develops software and hardware for artificial satellites. Since 2008, the company builds nanosatellites below CubeSat requirements. History Alén Space was established in 2007 through a joint initiative between the Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial (INTA) and those interested in launching a miniature satellite or nano-satellite for use in Internet of Things (IoT) applications, Aircraft Surveillance, and advanced Signals Intelligence ( SIGINT), which makes it possible to analyse electromagnetic spectrum and to identify signals originating in the Earth and outer-space. Xatcobeo
Xatcobeo, originally known as ''Dieste'', is a project to build the first Galician artificial satellite developed by Agrupación Estratéxica Aeroespacial (currently Alén Space) of the University of Vigo and leadered by Fernando Aguado in collaboration with the Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial (INTA) and with the support of the Galician government-owned corporation Retegal. The project was presented to the European Space Agency for its launch in the inaugural flight of the Vega rocket from the Guiana Space Centre, in Kourou (French Guiana). Its life will be between 6 and 12 months, and its cost will be around 1.2 million euros, being 50% funded by the Ministerio de Ciencia e Investigación of Spain, 25% by Retegal and in the last 25% jointly by the University of Vigo and INTA. Dnepr (rocket)
The Dnepr rocket (; ) was a space launch vehicle named after the Dnieper River. It was a converted ICBM used for launching artificial satellites into orbit, operated by launch service provider ISC Kosmotras. The first launch, on April 21, 1999, successfully placed UoSAT-12, a 350 kg demonstration mini-satellite, into a 650 km circular Low Earth orbit. Nanosat 1B
The Nanosat-1B Spanish satellite, designed, developed and operated by the Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial (INTA) (National Institute of Aerospace Technology), is a nanosatellite which weighs 22 kg. Its main mission is the communication between remote sites like the Antarctic, the Hespérides warship and Spain. The Nanosat-1B has fourteen sides, all of them covered by solar cells but the bottom one where the following antennas are installed: a medium gain Ultra high frequency (UHF) four wire antenna and two patch antennas. On the top side there are four UHF monopoles. The solar sensors and the Vectorsol experiment are located in the middle tray, being all the other equipment and experiments located inside the satellite. Ariane 5
Ariane 5 is a retired European heavy-lift space launch vehicle operated by Arianespace for the European Space Agency (ESA). It was launched from the Guiana Space Centre (CSG) in French Guiana. It was used to deliver payloads into geostationary transfer orbit (GTO), low Earth orbit (LEO) or further into space. The launch vehicle had a streak of 82 consecutive successful launches between 9 April 2003 and 12 December 2017. Since 2014, Ariane 6, a direct successor system, first launched in 2024. Nanosat 01
The Nanosat 01, sometimes written as NanoSat-1 or NanoSat 01, was an Satellite, artificial satellite developed by the Spanish Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial, Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial (INTA) and launched 18 December 2004. Considered a Small satellite, nano satellite for its weight of less than 20 kg, its main mission was forwarding communications between far reaching points of the Earth such as Juan Carlos I Antarctic Base from Peninsular Spain, mainland Spain. This was possible due to its polar orbit and altitude of 650 km above sea level. During an operational run the data obtained in the Antarctic would be uploaded to the satellite during its fly by and then, downloaded in Spain when satellite reached the Iberian Peninsula.
