Southwestern College (California)
Southwestern College is a public community college in Chula Vista, California. It was founded in 1961. It is part of the Southwestern Community College District, itself a part of the California Community Colleges system. It has an enrollment of 25,228 across all its campuses within San Diego County, as of 2023. It is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges. History The school opened as Southwestern Junior College in 1961 with William Kepley as its president. The dean of admissions was Saxon Wright. The ''Chula Vista Star-News'' reported that 15 students had registered within the first half hour the dean of admission's office was open, with Oliver Pittenger, a graduate of the nearby Chula Vista High School being the first person to enroll. In 2022–2023, enrollment exceeded 25,000 students across all campuses. Southwestern College is a private graduate school in Santa Fe, New Mexico, that specializes in counseling and art therapy. It is the only college or university in the state of New Mexico to offer a Master's Degree in Art Therapy. History Southwestern College traces its roots to the Quimby Metaphysical Library, a library which has a large collection of religious and metaphysical books, and manuscripts of American transcendentalist and the Father of the New Thought Movement, Phineas Parkhurst Quimby. The library was founded by Neva Dell Hunter in 1945 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. The library was eventually known as Quimby Memorial Library. The school's vision, mission, philosophy, and programs are also influenced by Rudolf Steiner, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Alice Bailey, perennial wisdom traditions, and Hindu scriptures. Texas Baptist College is a Baptist college in Fort Worth, Texas, United States. It is affiliated with the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Southern Baptist Convention).
