Slave Labor Graphics (SLG) is an American independent comic book publisher, well known for publishing darkly humorous, offbeat adult comics. Creators associated with SLG over the years include Evan Dorkin, Roman Dirge, Sarah Dyer, Woodrow Phoenix, Jhonen Vasquez, and Andi Watson. Company history Slave Labor Graphics was started in 1986 by Dan Vado,"Newspeak: Slave Labor in California," ''Speakeasy'' #65 (Aug. 1986), p. 4. who remains the company's president and publisher. The first book Slave Labor Graphics published was ''ShadowStar'' #3, a female superhero character previously published independently by some of Vado's friends. The company's first wave of titles (''Samurai Penguin'', ''Barrabas'', ''Lee Flea'', and ''The Light'') were all written by Vado, with art by a variety of creators. The Haunted Mansion
The Haunted Mansion is a dark ride, dark-ride attraction located at Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, and Tokyo Disneyland. The haunted house attraction features a ride-through tour in Omnimover vehicles called “Doom Buggies”, and a walk-through show is displayed to riders waiting in the queue line. Each location differs slightly in design, utilising a range of technology from centuries-old theatrical effects to modern special effects, including Audio-Animatronics. The Haunted Mansion inspired two similarly themed, but distinct attractions, Phantom Manor, and Mystic Manor, which exist at Disneyland Park (Paris) and Hong Kong Disneyland, respectively. The Haunted Mansion attraction launched a small franchise including two feature film adaptations, comic strips, television specials and merchandise. Bear (comics)
''Bear'' is a popular black and white alternative comic book created by British writer/artist Jamie Smart and published in the United States by Slave Labor Graphics. It follows the adventures of a small stuffed bear named Bear and his roommate/antagonist, a psychotic housecat named Looshkin. Looshkin often plays cruel, sadistic, and nonsensical pranks on Bear, and it is not uncommon for faeces and dismemberment to come into play. Smart's linework is bold and expressive, and his panels are littered with information and throw-away gags. The stories are marked by a combination of violent shocks, random silliness, and other hallmarks of Dada. 10 issues were published between 2003 and 2005. Smart would later revive the characters of Bear and Looshkin for the children's comic The Phoenix, with Looshkin as the titular character. Ariel Schrag
Ariel Schrag (born December 29, 1979) is an American cartoonist and television writer who achieved critical recognition at an early age for her autobiographical comics. Her novel ''Adam'' provoked controversy with its theme of a heterosexual teenage boy becoming drawn into the LGBTQ community of New York. Schrag accepts the label of ‘dyke comic book artist’. Career While attending Berkeley High School in Berkeley, California, Schrag self-published her first comic series, ''Awkward'', depicting events from her first year, originally selling copies to friends and family. Schrag then published three more graphic novels based on her next three years of school: ''Definition,'' ''Potential,'' and ''Likewise''.
