Skateboarding Styles
A skateboard style refers to the way a skateboarder can ride a skateboard. Styles of skateboarding have evolved and are influenced by a number of factors including sociocultural evolution, mass media, music, technology, and corporate influence. The styles used by different skateboarders when riding skateboards should not be confused with skater style, the manner in which skateboarders dress or act in relation to skateboarding culture. Styles Freestyle Probably the oldest style of skateboarding, freestyle skateboarding developed from the use of skateboards as a mode of transport in the 1960s. Skateboard
A skateboard is a type of sports equipment used for skateboarding. It is usually made of a specially designed 7–8-ply maple plywood deck and has polyurethane wheels attached to the underside by a pair of skateboarding trucks. The skateboard moves by pushing with one foot while the other foot remains balanced on the board, or by Pump (skateboarding), pumping one's legs in structures such as a bowl or half pipe. A skateboard can also be used by standing on the deck while on a downward slope and allowing gravity to propel the board and the rider. If the rider's leading foot is their left foot, they are said to ride "regular". Conversely, they are said to ride "goofy" if their leading foot is their right foot. Anthony Van Engelen (born November 20, 1978) is an American professional skateboarder whose stance is Regular. In the skateboarding scene he is well known by the name “AVE”, which is an acronym of his full name. Early life Van Engelen was born in San Diego, California, United States (US). Professional skateboarding Van Engelen's first sponsor was Volcom, but his first board sponsor was Channel One Skateboards. He was then sponsored by 23 Skateboards. Alien Workshop Van Engelen attained professional status with Alien Workshop skateboards as his deck sponsor in 1999 at the age of 21. His first full video part was in 411VM. Geoffrey Joseph Rowley Jr. (born 6 June 1976) is an English professional skateboarder, former co-owner of Flip Skateboards and owner of the Civilware Service Corporation. He received ''Thrasher Magazine'' "Skater of the Year" award in 2000. Early life Rowley started skateboarding around 1989 in his home city of Liverpool. He would skate for the course of entire days, while his friends would only skate for relatively short periods. Andrew Reynolds (skateboarder)
Andrew Reynolds (born June 6, 1978) is an American professional skateboarder known for co-founding Baker Skateboards in 2000 with artist Jay Strickland. He is now Baker Skateboard's sole owner. Reynolds established Bakerboys Distribution with Erik Ellington and Jim Greco in 2007. Bakerboys Distribution provides distribution for closely related in-house skateboard companies such as Deathwish Skateboards and Shake Junt. He is also the head of design at Altamont Apparel. Reynolds primarily skates street. He has been called one of the most influential skaters of all time. Chad Michael Muska (born May 20, 1977) is an American professional skateboarder. In November 2012, Skin Phillips, editor-in-chief of ''Transworld Skateboarding'', described Muska as "one of the most marketable pros skateboarding has ever seen." Kareem Campbell (born November 14, 1973) is an American professional skateboarder. He is known for popularizing the skateboard trick "The Ghetto Bird" which is a nollie hardflip late 180°. Skateboarding career Kareem Campbell was an innovative professional skateboarder in the 1990s. Daewon Song (born February 19, 1975) () is an American professional skateboarder. He is the co-founder and co-owner of Almost Skateboards and Thank You Skateboards, and continues to skate for the latter company. Eric Koston (born April 29, 1975) is a Thai born American professional skateboarder and company owner. Livestrong Foundation
The Livestrong Foundation is a United States nonprofit organization that provides support for people affected by cancer. The foundation, based in Austin, Texas, was established in 1997 by cancer survivor and former professional road racing cyclist Lance Armstrong, as the Lance Armstrong Foundation. The Livestrong brand was launched by the foundation in 2003. Armstrong resigned from the foundation in 2012 after his admission of doping, leading to the rebranding of the entire organization as Livestrong Foundation.
