Sils im Domleschg ( Romansh: ''Seglias'') is a municipality in the Viamala Region in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. History Sils im Domleschg is first mentioned in 1149 as ''de Sillas''. Geography Sils im Domleschg has an area, (as of the 2004/09 survey) of . Of this area, about 14.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while 70.4% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 8.2% is settled (buildings or roads) and 6.9% is unproductive land. In the 2004/09 survey a total of or about 3.8% of the total area was covered with buildings, an increase of over the 1984/85 amount. Hinterrhein (river)
The Hinterrhein (; ; ; ; ; ), or Posterior Rhine, is the right of the two initial tributaries of the Rhine (the other being the '' Vorderrhein''). It is located in the canton of Grisons (), Switzerland. One of its upper tributaries is , which is the outflow of Lago di Lei located in Lombardy, Italy. Although it is shorter in length, its volume is larger than that of the ''Vorderrhein'' at their confluence near Reichenau, after which the river is called the Alpine Rhine, which flows out into Lake Constance (). Campell Castle
Campell or Campi Castle is a castle in the municipality of Sils im Domleschg of the Canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance. History The castle was probably begun in the early 13th century for the knightly von Campell family. The first mention of the family is from 1289 when ''Egeno de Campelle'' appears in a record. The original castle was a four-story bergfried.(Bauphase 1 on drawing) In the 13th or early 14th century it was expanded with a ring wall, gatehouse, ditches and a drawbridge on the west side and a residential wing on the east.(Bauphase 2) However, the Campell family died out in the 14th century. In 1389 the Bishopric of Chur recorded that Bishop Hartmann granted lands that used to be the Campell fief to Hans and Gottfried von Ehrenfels. Hohenrätien Castle is a castle in the Municipalities of Switzerland, municipality of Sils im Domleschg of the Canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. History The castle was built on a rock wall that rises above the Viamala river and the important roads over the San Bernardino Pass, San Bernardino and Splügen Passes. Ehrenfels Castle (Grisons)
Ehrenfels Castle is a castle in the Municipalities of Switzerland, municipality of Sils im Domleschg of the Canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. It is a Swiss Swiss inventory of cultural property of national and regional significance, heritage site of national significance. Today it is a youth hostel. History The castle was probably built in the first half of the 13th century. The first mention of the Lord of Ehrenfels is in 1257. In 1320 it was owned by Burkhard and Rudolf von Schauenstein, who also used the name Ehrenfels or Herrenfels. They probably expanded the simple bergfried with residential space and a ring wall around that time. The castle was first mentioned in 1423 with Hermann von Ehrenfels as the owner.
