Silent Hill
is a horror media franchise centered on a series of survival horror games created by Keiichiro Toyama and published by Konami. Akira Yamaoka
is a Japanese composer, musician, producer, and sound designer who composed for Konami's ''Silent Hill'' video game series from 1999 to 2009, and 2024 onwards. He also produced many of its installments, and composed for its three film adaptations. Yamaoka worked with Konami from 1993 to 2009, and rejoined in 2024. He has been the sound director at Grasshopper Manufacture since 2010. Life and career Yamaoka attended Tokyo Art College, where he studied product design and interior design. Before working as a video game composer, Yamaoka initially sought a career as a designer, but instead became a musician after studying product design at Tokyo Art College. Survival horror is a Video game genre, subgenre of horror games. Although combat can be part of the gameplay, the player is made to feel less in control than in typical action games through limited ammunition or weapons, health, speed, and vision, or through various obstructions of the player's interaction with the game mechanics. The player is also challenged to find items that unlock the path to new areas and solve puzzles to proceed in the game. Games make use of strong horror themes, such as dark mazelike environments and Jump scare, unexpected attacks from enemies.
