Şüvəlan is a settlement and municipality in Baku, Azerbaijan. It has a population of 14,992. The population origin comes mostly from a settlement of Qala, Azerbaijan. Shuvalan FK (, ) was an Azerbaijani football club based in Şüvəlan, Baku. The club was founded in 2005 and dissolved in 2019. The club was renamed four times in its short history, becoming Olimpik Baku, Olimpik-Shuvalan Baku, AZAL and Shuvalan. UEFA is still recognizing the club as Olimpik-Shuvalan at European competitions. The club is also a member of the European Club Association, an organization that replaced the previous G-14 which consists of major football clubs in Europe. The ''Great Soviet Encyclopedia'' (GSE; , ''BSE'') is one of the largest Russian-language encyclopedias, published in the Soviet Union from 1926 to 1990. Ruhulla Akhundov
Ruhulla Akhundov (; 1 January 1897 – 21 April 1938) was an Azerbaijani Soviet politician, publisher and journalist who was the Second Secretary of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan from 1925 to 1926, under the Soviet leadership of Joseph Stalin. Life and career Akhundov was born in to the family of a teacher. He spoke several eastern and western languages. Since 1916 Akhundov worked in a printing house. In 1917 he was a member of a group of Azerbaijani Left-Socialist-Revolutionaries called the Farmers' Party. In 1918 he was the editor of the newspaper Izvestia of the Baku Council, and in 1919, the Azerbaijani illegal Bolshevik newspaper "Kommunist ". In the same year he joined the Communist Party. Almas Ildyrym (), born Ildyrym Almaszade (25 March 1907, Baku – 14 January 1952, Elazığ, Turkey), was an Azerbaijani poet. After the Bolsheviks established their power in Azerbaijan in 1920, the fact that Ildyrym had been born into a wealthy merchant family plagued him for the rest of his life. Though he was accepted to the faculty of Oriental Literature at Azerbaijan State University, it was not long before they dismissed him because of his family origins. In 1926, Almas co-authored a book of poems, ''Dün bugün'' ("Yesterday is Today") with Suleyman Rustam. Soon he was exiled to Dagestan for the nationalist ideas in his poems. While in exile, he wrote ''Dağlardan xatirələr'' ("Memories from the Mountains"), ''Ləzgi elləri'' ("Lezgi Lands"), ''Krımda axşamlar'' ("Evenings in Crimea"), ''Səlimxan'', and ''Günah kimdədir?'' Qala (also, Gala and Kala-Machtagi) is a settlement and municipality in Khazar raion, Baku, Azerbaijan. It has a population of 2,857. Gala State Historical Ethnographic Reserve is located in Qala. The name of the village of Qala is directly related to the "fortress". At first glance, such a simple explanation of the toponym is based on historical and archaeological facts on the one hand, and folk etymology on the other.
