Sermersooq
Sermersooq () is a municipality in Greenland, formed on 1 January 2009 from five previous, smaller municipalities. Its administrative seat is the city of Nuuk (formerly called Godthåb), the capital of Greenland, and it is the most populous municipality in the country, with 23,123 inhabitants as of January 2020. Nuuk
Nuuk (; , formerly ) is the capital and most populous city of Greenland, an autonomous territory in the Kingdom of Denmark. Nuuk is the seat of government and the territory's largest cultural and economic center. It is also the seat of government for the Sermersooq municipality. In January 2025, it had a population of 20,113more than a third of the territory's populationmaking it one of the smallest capital cities in the world by population. The city was founded in 1728 by the Danish-Norwegian missionary Hans Egede when he relocated from the earlier Hope Colony (), where he had arrived in 1721; the governor Claus Paarss was part of the relocation. The new colony was placed at the Inuit settlement of Nûk and was named ''Godthaab'' ("Good Hope"). "Nuuk" is the Greenlandic word for "cape" () and is commonly found in Greenlandic place names. Kulusuk
Kulusuk (old spelling: ''Qulusuk''),Eastgreenland.com.Kulusuk". formerly Kap Dan, is a settlement in the Sermersooq municipality in southeastern Greenland, located on an island of the same name. The settlement has a population of 241, including many Danes choosing to live there due to the airport. In the Kalaallisut language, the name of the village means "Chest of a Black Guillemot". Geography The urbanized area of the settlement is centered around the harbour in the northwestern part of the island, on the shores of the Torsuut Tunoq sound. Arsuk
Arsuk is a village in the Sermersooq municipality in southwestern Greenland. It had 73 inhabitants in 2020. Ittoqqortoormiit
Ittoqqortoormiit (; ), formerly known as Scoresbysund, is a settlement in the Sermersooq municipality in eastern Greenland. Its population was 345 as of 2020, and it has been described as one of the most remote settlements on Earth. The former name Scoresbysund derives from the English Arctic explorer and whaler William Scoresby, who was the first European to map the area in 1822. The name "Ittoqqortoormiit" means "big house dwellers" in the Eastern Greenlandic language, Greenlandic dialect. The region is known for its wildlife, including polar bears, musk ox, muskoxen, and seals. Sermiligaaq (old spelling: ''Sermiligâk´'') is a settlement in the Sermersooq municipality in southeastern Greenland. It is located near the Sermilik Fjord. Its population was 209 in 2020. Kapisillit ( Danish: ''Lakskaj'') is a settlement in the Sermersooq municipality in southwestern Greenland. The settlement had 43 inhabitants in 2024. Qeqertarsuatsiaat
Qeqertarsuatsiaat, also known by its Danish name Fiskernæs (alternatively Fiskenæsset), is a settlement in the Sermersooq municipalities of Greenland, municipality in southwestern Greenland, located on an island off the shores of Labrador Sea.
