Serchhip District
Serchhip district is one of the eleven districts of Mizoram state in India. The district occupies an area of 1421.60 km2. Serchhip town is the administrative headquarters of the district. This district came into existence on 15 September 1998, being carved out of the larger Aizawl District. Because of the way it was created it includes part of East Lungdar Tehsil and part of Thingsulthliah Tehsil. As of 2011 census, it has the highest literacy rate in India, and is the second least populous district of Mizoram (out of eight), after Saiha. Geography The district is bounded on the north and northwest by Aizawl District, on the west and south by Lunglei District, on the southeast by Myanmar (Burma), and on the east by Champhai District. The district is mostly a hilly terrain with some alluvial benches along its rivers that are utilised for agriculture. Serchhip District lies between the Mat River and the Tuikum River. List Of Districts Of Mizoram
The Indian state of Mizoram is divided into 11 districts. Historical Administrative Divisions When Mizoram was a district under Assam it operated under a system of subdivisions. The district was halved into Aizawl and Lunglei. Before the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971 Lunglei was also composed of a Pawi-Lakher Subdivision based on councils. When Mizoram became a union territory on 21 January 1972, it was divided into three districts: Aizawl, Lunglei and Chhimtuipui. Later five more districts were carved out of the already existing three districts. Hinduism In Mizoram
Hinduism is a minority faith in Mizoram followed by 2.75% of its population. There are 30,136 Hindus in Mizoram. There are 12 temples in Mizoram and are managed by the Central Gorkha Mandir Sanchalan Samiti. History An archeological study in 2023 discovered 8tth century Hindu and Buddhist-influenced sculptures at Kolalian village in the Mamit district. The area belong to Reangs( Bru) Tribes who worship Hindu deities. Christianity In Mizoram
Christianity is the largest religion in Mizoram. The majority 87% of Mizoram population are Christian in various denominations, predominantly Presbyterian. More than 98% of the Mizos are Christians by faith. The culture of Mizoram is mainly influenced by Christianity. Hence, Christianity was given a special status on the state by the government while maintaining a minimum level of secular environment and approach.
