Sel is a municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Gudbrandsdal. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Otta. The municipality also includes several notable villages including Bjølstad, Dale, Høvringen, Nord-Sel, Sandbumoen, Sjoa, and Skogbygda. The municipality is the 130th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Sel is the 172nd most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 5,531. Sel Church
Sel Church ( no, Sel kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sel Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the village of Selsverket. It is the church for the Sel parish which is part of the Nord-Gudbrandsdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Hamar. The white, wooden church was built in a cruciform design in 1742 using plans drawn up by the architect Knut Syversen Moen. The church seats about 250 people. History The first church in Sel was a wooden stave church that was likely built in the 13th century. The first church was built at the Romundgård farm in Nord-Sel, about northwest of the present site of the church. In 1628, the old church underwent a major renovation, rebuilding most of the church. This project was completed in 1630. By 1723, the church was described as being in poor condition when the King put the church up for sale at an auction to help raise money to pay down the debt from the Great Northern War. The village is located in the northern part of the municipality on the south shore of the Gudbrandsdalslågen river, about northwest of the town of Otta. is a town in Sel Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The town is also the administrative centre of the municipality. The town is located at the confluence of the Gudbrandsdalslågen and Otta rivers. The European route E6 highway runs through the town. Sjoa (village)
Sjoa is a village in Sel Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village is located at the confluence of the rivers Gudbrandsdalslågen and Sjoa. The Dovrebanen railway line and the European route E6 highway both run through the village. Sjoa Chapel is located in the village. The mountain Saukampen lies just to the southwest of the village. In 2016 Perkolo Bridge, a glued laminated timber bridge over the Gudbrandsdalslågen at Soja collapsed. The official report into the collapse determined that "the direct cause is a defective joint in the framework". The Perkolo Bridge collapse led to 11 similar bridges being closed for inspection, including one at Tretten. Gudbrandsdal
Gudbrandsdalen (; en, Gudbrand Valley) is a valley and traditional district in the Norwegian county of Innlandet (formerly Oppland). The valley is oriented in a north-westerly direction from Lillehammer and the lake of Mjøsa, extending toward the Romsdalen valley. The river Gudbrandsdalslågen (Lågen) flows through the valley, starting from the lake Lesjaskogsvatnet and ending at the lake Mjøsa. The Otta river which flows through Otta valley is a major tributary to the main river Lågen. Høvringen
Høvringen is a village in Sel Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village is located in the northern part of the municipality, high up in the mountains along the Gudbrandsdalen valley. The village area sits at an elevation of about above sea level. The village area now serves as the main entrance into the mountainous Rondane National Park, the first national park that was established in Norway. History Originally, Høvringen was filled with small, summer mountain pastures ( no, seter) that were used by farmers from the villages down in the valley. Heidal is a former municipality in the old Oppland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1908 until its dissolution in 1965. The former municipality is now part of the present-day Sel Municipality in Innlandet county.
