is a Japanese video game company and subsidiary of Sega Sammy Holdings headquartered in Tokyo. The first of the sixth generation of video game consoles, it was released in Japan on November 27, 1998, in North America on September 9, 1999, and in Europe on October 14, 1999. The Sega Saturn was a video game console by Sega. While Sega found success in its Sega Genesis in the early 1990s, the failure of the Sega CD and 32X hardware add-ons left them in need of moving on to new hardware. Concerned about the impending releases of Sony's first PlayStation console and Nintendo's N64, Sega rushed the Saturn to market in regions across late 1994 and 1995. While the platform performed moderately well with sales and third party support across 1995, particularly in Japan, momentum slowed in 1996 between the release of the Nintendo 64 and the cancellation of ''Sonic X-treme'', the Saturn's only planned mainline ''Sonic'' game at the time. This is a list of cancelled Sega 32X video games. The 32X was an add-on to the Sega Genesis video game console that was designed as a cheaper, more incremental hardware alternative to the Sega Saturn. However, the dwindling of the aging Genesis market and the more advanced Saturn dwarfing it led to low sales and a very brief lifespan - launched in late 1994, it was discontinued by early 1996. Many games - even Sega's own - were cancelled simply because games were not able to be finished in this short time, with games either being moved on to the Saturn, or cancelled outright. This is a list of cancelled Sega Game Gear games. The Game Gear was a handheld video game console by Sega. With Sega finding success with their Sega Genesis in the early 1990s against rival Nintendo's Super NES, Sega decided to release a handheld competitor to Nintendo's Game Boy — the Game Gear. The Game Gear was able to find some success from the Genesis's popularity, and its ability to easily port Sega's older Master System games to it, but as the Genesis faded in the mid-1990s, the Game Gear slowed and eventually ended production. While doing better than many competitors, it still sold only a tenth as many units as the Game Boy, and towards the end of its life, had many games cancelled while companies focused on Game Boy or other versions instead.
