Science Fiction
Science fiction (often shortened to sci-fi or abbreviated SF) is a genre of speculative fiction that deals with imaginative and futuristic concepts. These concepts may include information technology and robotics, biological manipulations, space exploration, time travel, Parallel universes in fiction, parallel universes, and extraterrestrials in fiction, extraterrestrial life. The genre often explores human responses to the consequences of projected or imagined scientific advances. Boris Artzybasheff
Boris Mikhailovich Artzybasheff (, 25 May 1899; Kharkov, Kharkov Governorate, Russian Empire – 16 July 1965) was a Russian and American illustrator notable for his strongly worked and often surreal designs. Life and career Artzybasheff was born in Kharkov, son of the author Mikhail Artsybashev. He is said to have fought as a White Russian. During 1919 he arrived in New York City, where he worked in an engraving shop. His earliest work appeared in 1922 as illustrations for ''Verotchka's Tales'' and ''The Undertaker's Garland''. A number of other book illustrations followed during the 1920s. Dhan Gopal Mukerji's '' Gay Neck, the Story of a Pigeon'', with his illustrations, was awarded the Newbery Medal in 1928. His book '' Seven Simeons'' was a Caldecott Honor Book in 1938. Over the course of his career, he illustrated some 50 books, several of which he wrote, most notably ''As I See''. Julie Bell
Julie Bell (born October 21, 1958) is an American fine artist, illustrator, photographer, bodybuilder and wildlife painter. Bell is also a fantasy artist and a representative of the heroic fantasy and fantastic realism genres. Bell has won Chesley Awards and was the designer of the Dragons of Destiny series. She also won first place awards in the Art Renewal Center International Salon, which bestowed on her the title "ARC Living Master". Early life Bell was born on October 21, 1958, in Beaumont, Texas. She attended five different high schools, studying painting and drawing. In her youth, she was fond of bodybuilding. Rudolph Belarski
Rudolph Belarski (May 27, 1900 – December 24, 1983) was an American graphic artist known for his cover art depicting aerial combat for magazines such as ''Wings'', '' Dare Devil Aces'', and ''War Birds''. Zdzisław Beksiński
Zdzisław Beksiński (; 24 February 192921 February 2005) was a Polish painter, photographer, and sculptor specializing in the field of dystopian surrealism. Beksiński made his paintings and drawings in what he called either a Baroque or a Gothic manner. His creations were made mainly in two periods. The first period of work is generally considered to contain expressionistic colour, with a strong style of "utopian realism" and surreal architecture. The second period contained more abstract style, with the main features of formalism. Beksiński was stabbed to death at his Warsaw apartment on February 21, 2005, by a 19-year-old acquaintance from Wołomin, reportedly because Beksiński refused to lend him money. Denis Beauvais
Denis ("Den") Beauvais (born 1962) is a Canadian artist whose work has appeared in role-playing games. He was born and raised in Ottawa.Saxberg, Lynn (April 4, 1990). Pauline Baynes
Pauline Diana Baynes (9 September 1922 – 1 August 2008) was an English illustrator, author, and commercial artist. She contributed drawings and paintings to more than 200 books, mostly in the children's genre. She was the first illustrator of some of J. R. R. Tolkien's minor works, including ''Farmer Giles of Ham'', ''Smith of Wootton Major'', and ''The Adventures of Tom Bombadil''. She became well known for her cover illustrations for ''The Hobbit'' and ''The Lord of the Rings'', and for her poster map with inset illustrations, ''A Map of Middle-earth''. She illustrated all seven volumes of C. S. Lewis's ''Chronicles of Narnia'', from the first book, ''The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe''. Jill Bauman
Jill Bauman is an American artist. She has been nominated for the World Fantasy Award five times and nominated for the Chesley Award several times. Her art has been exhibited at the Delaware Art Museum, the Moore College of Art, Art Students League of New York, the NY Illustrators Society & and the Science Fiction Museum of Seattle. Bauman has created hundreds of book covers for horror, mystery, fantasy, science fiction, and best selling books including 23 of the ''Cat Who...'' books by Lilian Jackson Braun during the 1980s and 1990s. Jill Bauman got her Bachelor of Arts from Adelphi University. She did her graduate work at Adelphi University and Queens College. She is a Life Member of the Art Students League of New York. Richard Bassford
Richard Bassford (born 1936) is an American illustrator who has worked in both advertising and comic books. Born in Manhattan, Bassford lived from age three in the Queens neighborhoods of Maspeth, Corona and Whitestone until his marriage in 1961, when he moved to Flushing. In 1975, Bassford settled in Cold Spring, New York. Comic books As a teenager, he took particular note of comic books drawn by Wally Wood, who became a major influence. In Manhattan, Bassford studied at the School of Industrial Art (which later became the High School of Art and Design), and he entered the commercial art field in the early 1950s with magazine gag cartoons and packaging art for toy boxes. His pen-and-ink illustrations were published in the magazine ''Amateur Art & Camera'' in 1954. George Barr (artist)
George Edward Barr (January 30, 1937 – April 19, 2025) was an American science fiction and fantasy artist. Early life and education George Barr was born in Tucson, Arizona, on January 30, 1937, and grew up in Salt Lake City. His parents related that Barr started drawing at age 2 after his older sister was complimented on drawings she had done in kindergarten. At age 13, he became a fan of science fiction when his father brought home a copy of ''Amazing Stories''. While in high school, Barr studied art under prominent local landscape artist Jack Vigo; after graduation, he took a commercial art class, but found little value because the class concentrated on only the commercial art skills that would be needed in the Salt Lake City market, while Barr dreamed of creating science fiction and fantasy-themed art.
